For those times I write in pencil I use a Rotring 600 in 0.7 or 0.5. I do have a couple of 2mm lead holders too.

So space and time are linked together. As we are looking across space, we are looking back in time. The further and further away those stars are the further back in time you are looking. Now you are seeing a star that is say six thousand years ago. Imagine somebody at that star looking at us They would be seeing us as we were six thousand years ago. Which of those two is now? - Alan Parsons Project The Time Machine - Temporalia (Paraphrased)

I have bought two Lamy Scribble, in 0.7 and in 3.15, and they are really outstanding to write and principally to sketch : weight, shape , everything is close to perfection.

My 1943 Parker Vacumatic Grey Pearl pencil arrived today, so I'll be using it for some book underlining today. :D I think I'm in danger of becoming as avid a pencil collector as I am a pen collector. Oh dear.

My usual everyday pencils for work are vintage Dixon's Eldorado H or F sharpened on a KUM Auto Long Point.

Just a humble USA Gold for today (as yet- might use a Cedar Pointe or Mars Lumograph in F later on).

Haven't bought any of these in a while- I prefer Noricas for cheap pencils- but I saw this in my pencil cup and thought I'd give it a go for the day.

Here to help when I know, learn when I don't, and pass on the information to anyone I can :)

its a diplomat, probably from the late 1940s early 50s. The hallmarks on the pencil will tell you the exact date and place of manufacture, if you are interested. At £3.00 including postage on ebay you got an amazing deal

So many beautiful pencils in this thread, wow! This is a dangerous thread to be in, as I could easily be tempted down the road to pencil collecting too, along with pens and my wallet just couldn't take it ;)

I use pencils everyday, either Blackwing 602 (which is my favourite) or the Blackwing Pearl. Once I got onto these pencils, I was totally hooked :)

My favorite mechanical pencil, the Pentel PS535. Which I just found out two days ago that Pentel is discontinuing. Luckily I have a couple spare but I don't see why they would discontinue a model that has been so long running and so proven. The sliding sleeve works perfectly and I think it's a great pencil for just writing.

These Blackwings are wooden pencils, right? So what makes these so special?

Yup, they are made out of incense cedar. I love how smoooooth they are. So smooth, and require very little pressure to use. Using the two-stage long-point sharpener on them will provide a really sharp point, which is excellent for practicing penmanship, especially Spencerian.

The Pearl ones are softer, and better suited for sketching. I sometimes use the Pearl for writing too, but more for drawing. Once thing I have noticed is how strong the lead is. I don't have the breakage that I was experiencing with other pencils, even with such a long point.

The pencils feel really good in the hand and the rubber on it is adjustable, so as it wears down, you just keep pulling it up out of the ferrule. When you run out of rubber, you have the ability to replace it with a new one if you so desire. Pretty handy! Originally I didn't know if I would really take advantage of this feature (I kinda thought it was perhaps rather gimmicky, and I had found that most rubbers on pencils just don't erase that well) and would keep a separate rubber beside me to use instead, but then I started to use the one on the pencil and was impressed. It is of excellent quality and erases cleanly, and I'm not looking around for my rubber to use (which is usually stolen by the dog) LOL.

I also think that they are very attractive looking. They look good, and because of the shape of the ferrule, they don't roll away. No pencil chasing here ;)

All, that being said, I have never used the original Blackwing 602s that have a huge cult following, and I have heard die-hard fans complain that the new ones don't measure up to the originals. I can't speak to that, but in regards to the current 602s (and Pearl, and Original) I am very, very happy with them.

I must see if I can get them here in the Netherlands. Interested to try. Thanks for the mini review.

This is one of my favorites! I also was disappointed to see Pentel dicontinue this, though I know reason to think that the two I have won't do me the rest of my life! As VanRocket mentioned, the sliding sleeve works flawlessly, and I have never had one give me an issue. I recenlty picked up the new Pentel Libretto pen and pencil set. The pencil features has a light metal body and does not have the slim profile of the PS535 but it has the same sliding sleeve.
