I just got a new Parker Urban in the mail today and have been enjoying it very much. If you are looking for an elegant, solid pencil look no further.

Very nice pencil. It's currently my favourite one, beating out the Rotring 800.

That's a pretty colour.

I wonder how you will rate the lead advance system over time.

Just got a Cross ATX Sage Green ballpoint in the mail today, and turned it into a 0.7mm pencil with the Cross Switch-It converter. I am quite enjoying myself over here. :D

Pics!!! So we can enjoy ourselves too.

It appears I misspoke (mistyped?)----it's Spruce green, not Sage. Though I did have my eye on Sage as well!

(I'm not actually left-handed, just using my right hand to take the photo.)

A late 1920s octagonal, silver plated Wahl Eversharp (the classic Keeran design) loaded with what is quickly becoming my favorite lead, Autopoint 1.1mm HB. So smooth and dark, but I don't have to advance the lead very often at all. It's brassed and worn with a sprung clip, but it works perfectly, is clean and I got it for a good deal, so I won't complain :)

So much for 0.5mm graphing pencils with HB Pentel Hi-Polymer Super leads being my all time favorite.

Oh, and possibly a Staedtler Norica later in the day. Great woodcase pencil for the price. Smooth and dark core, good eraser, sharpens almost as nicely as cedar, looks good, even finish. Good stuff for 14 cents or so each (IIRC).

Here to help when I know, learn when I don't, and pass on the information to anyone I can :)

I kind of wonder the same thing. At the moment I don't mind stopping to twist, but we'll see how I feel later on. It's too bad that there aren't any really nice looking side click pencils...

  • 2 weeks later...

I usually just carry the Midori bullet pencil and a Uni Kura Toga. But I have to confess I'm severely attracted to the Cross ATX in TeaHive's left hand. I think that might replace both my carry pencils.

Haha, glad you like it! A Cross ATX was my first fountain pen, so I have a deep love for the design of it. Of course I needed an ATX pencil in my collection. ;) I do wish I'd gotten a color that had the textured matte surface for a better grip, though. The Spuce Green has a smooth lacquered surface and can be a little slippery.

For today, I'm using my new Woerther Hexegonal 3.15mm lead clutch in Plum.

jabberwock11, is that a genuine screw mechanism on the Parker Urban, or is it a "twist to click"-type? If I have to twist it, I prefer an "analog" mechanism, even if it is a lot fussier to reload. I have a Yard-O-Led Edwardian that I love to bits, it's a bit of a shame how light & hard the lead is though.

As for my daily driver just lately, I'm back to my Lamy 2000 in 0.7. For mech pencil nerds it's highly praised, but I think it gets overshadowed by the fountain pen version in the broader stationery world, which is too bad. I don't have the FP for that . . . yet. :)

Thanks. This one is of particular sentimental value since it was my first "high end" mechanical pencil and I've had it since about 1986. Now 29 years old and still working fine.

The F-C Alpha is a very nice pencil. I've had a TK-Matic since the early 80s, and I've never found anything better (not for want of trying, but only the Rotring 600 ever came close).
