I liked and used Waxtex wax paper bags for years, going back to elementary school. Great for keeping potato chips fresh. It brought back memories when I saw this in an antique store yesterday. It's a Ritepoint with a nice, strong imprint. Very strong orange color, too. I think it's older than my elementary school days from the 60's.

I'm feeling a mighty need to go to the antique mall and check out all the pencils I've neglected to look at while searching for pens. :)

I've found quite a few that way. Look for the leads and erasers as well, sometimes the right sizes are hard to find.

Today, however, I'm using a UNI Kuru Toga 0.7. It's really nice.

What little writing I did in pencil today (I'm using pen for darn near everything right now) was with a standard, boring, yellow, hexagonal, HB/#2 Dixon Ticonderoga. It's just about the most boring wooden pencil a stationery addict could use, but they're easy to find, cheap, and write well enough to be a good daily workhorse pencil. The eraser is excellent for a ferrule bound on-the-pencil eraser as well. It won't beat a Mars Plastic block or a Hi-Polymer eraser cap, but it does darn well for in the field erasing :)

A Ritepoint today. It's inscribed "Union Mutual Fire Insurance 1875 - 1950". As the company is still in existence I have to conclude that this pencil was inscribed in 1950, possibly as a gift/promotion. And today it is joined in the pencil case by a Pilot S20, a Worther stubby (3.5mm I think) and my latest addition, a 2mm Kohinoor Toison D'Or.

There's also a couple of Cretacolor Monoliths (2B and 4B) and an HB Bohemia Works Progresso.

What can I say, I like to have a few pencils around.

Those E+M fatties look very tempting...

I used a Rosetta 2mm clutch pencil with HB lead for sketching tonight. It is new. I used to use a standard #2 HB pencil, but I thought I'd try an inexpensive mechanical to see how I like it. :)

In my opinion, even the nicest wooden pencils are inferior to lead holders for writing. I've got a stash of nice wooden pencils that I'm making myself use up, but once they're gone, I'll go back to using lead holders and drafting pencils.

Today I used a Dixon Ticonderoga (again, it's a daily workhorse pencil for me) and an ivory colored 0.9mm Autopoint Jumbo mechanical pencil, with the Jumbo doing most of the writing and the Ticonderoga functioning as a separate eraser (forgot a block today).

I use pencils for sketching zentangles. I have a new sketching kit for 2015. The tin holds an assortment of wooden drawing pencils of various lead hardness HB to 8B. Below are my two new lead holders. The middle pencil is a Rosetta 2mm clutch with HB lead. The bottom on is a Rosetta Da Vinci 5.6mm lead clutch with 2B. The 2mm is a standard mechanical pencil. I'm still deciding how I like it or not. The Da Vinci is a dream to sketch with. The balance combined with the rubber grip makes it feel like part of my hand.

For the last couple of days I've been using a Staedtler Mars Lumograph HB. I'm trying to decide if I like it or the Hi-Uni better (they're both marvelous).

It's rotring 800 :)

Have been thinking about getting a fixed sleeve twsbi pencil. How does it compare against a rotring 600 ?

In the advice of a satisfied customer I got a TWSBI retractable-sleeve. The big difference is that if you drop the retractable on its point, nothing get damaged.

Thanks for sharing your experience DaveBj. Will the tip have a significant wobble compared to the fixed one?

Best,
