Same as most days: Lamy 2000 MP, Rotring 600 (retractable sleeve), and TWSBI (retractable sleeve, chrome) -- all 0.7mm.

The only one I had with me just happened to be in my laptop case; I'd forgotten to put one in my pocket. Scripto 1.1 mm, similar to the U.S. Government Skilcraft ones that military people may remember.

I was disappointed with the plastic uni kuri-toga. maybe the metal bodied model is better?

I was also disappointed with the Lamy Safari .5 pencil. Clicking once or twice might push out 1mm of lead, or 15mm of lead. :( Terrible.

I love my Faber Castell TK Fine Vario L (whatever that means). Feels great in the hand and comes in .9 which is a huge plus for me.

I also (surprisingly) love my Rotring 6 sided pencil. All metal, about the same size as a #2 wood case pencil (but shorter), and works perfectly. I LOVE it. One of my new favorites. Of course I'm never done looking for new really cool and comfy pencils to add to the collection. :)

In a world of annoying cell phone ringing, my younger colleagues seem to have focused on my electric pencil sharpener as the worst noise imaginable. So I am trying mechanical pencils with fat leads. The weight of it is putting me off. Like a watercolor brush made with plastic instead of wood.

This thread is great! I'd second the motion to clone off a MPN -- maybe lead by Dave of Dave's Mechanical Pencils?

All of my fountain pens live in 'sets' which naturally include a mechanical pencil. When possible, I include the MP that matches with the FP. I also have a couple of MP which are not in sets...

In terms of my favorites. I prefer thicker rather than thinner leads. I also prefer the older propelling mechanisms rather than the modern twist or click mechanisms. My favorites are:

  1. Parker Duofold propelling mechanism, Parker 0.9 leads; from the 90's
  2. Retro 51 propelling mechanism, either the original 0.9 lead or the newer 1.15 lead.
  3. F-C E-motion, using F-C 1.4 B lead (this one sits on my home office desk at all times; very convenient for impromptu notes of all sorts)
  4. Pentel P209, using Pentel 0.9 HB lead
  5. Pentel Graphgear 1000 using Pentel 0.7 H lead

Right now I have a Papermate mechanical pencil and I have no idea where I got it (gift?) with a .7 lead, which is odd, since I mostly have Pentel mechanical pencils with the side-click and .5 lead.

I generally prefer mechanical pencils to wood.
