What Pencil Are You Using Today?

I prefer 2mm lead holders. What I like about them is that you can have a very sharp, fine point or a soft, broad point. In that regard, they are similar to a wood pencil, but have the convenience of more modern mechanical pencils. My favorite pencil has always been the Staedtler Mars Technico 780 C. I bought mine in 1999. I've used it everyday since and it still works like new. It has a built in sharpener that I only recently discovered. I just bought a E+M X-change in oak. The wood feels nice. I loaded some 2mm red lead in it. So far so good.

This remins me; I was gonna order a larger e+m clutch pencil.. Doh!! *facepalms*

I like those. My only gripe is the length requires you to break the lead to fit.

Well, today I'm torn between my Midori Brass pencil, and my new e+m and Wörther clutch pencils (which arrived today, courtesy of Cult Pens)... So hard to pick just one.. :P

"Is this thing on??"

I actually did use a pencil this morning, noting down that we were out of Cheerios, and this evening, noting down some measurements while baking a test batch of cookies. A PaperMate "Sharpwriter."

Berol Turquoise leadholder. I think it's got 2H lead in it.

Some century I might have to actually go to an art store and *buy* another container of leads, but I'm pretty sure I still have some -- I think this package has lasted at least a decade....

All this talk of pencils reminds me of a comic relief entry in the glossary of Joan Hughes' classic programming text, PL/I Structured Programming:

optimist: a programmer who codes in ink

I code in ink.

Pink Sun Star W Knock Sharp mechanical pencil with .5 B Pentel STEIN lead.

(After the incident yesterday with most of my papers that had ink written on them getting soaked - due to me knocking over my water bottle, of course - I realised that maybe using pencil at work was a smart thing. :P)

I'm writing an online serial thing. It's urban fantasy. And I have no idea how long it's going to run for.

Is this the equivalent of trolling in a mechanical pencil thread? ;)

I have a Tetis MP which I'm not too fond of. Looks great though and the mechanism works great too, spring-loaded clip, but alas, not comfortable for me in longer writing sessions.

Today I got a Jotter MP to try out. So far I'm liking it. Previous pencils have been a Tikky 1.0, Pentel TechniclickG 0.5, and a Papermate Widemate 0.5. I seem to have misplaced a Faber-Castell 0.7 somewhere.

I occasionally play around with a 1.3mm Milan RGV.

All bleeding stops...eventually

blackwing 602, sharpened with a long-point :)

I'm not affiliated with ANY of the brands/retailers/shops/ebay sellers/whatever I mention or recommend. If that ever changes, I will let you know :)

Looking for a cheap Pilot VP/Capless - willing to put up with lots of cosmetic damage.
