Been working in my shop today where nothing beats a sharp Ticonderoga #2.

Just acquired this nice 1930s Canadian made Sheaffer Balance in an interesting striated celluloid. The cap band is engraved "D.E.F.  TORONTO  '38" .

No white dot. Did Sheaffer ever put white dots on their pencils?

I was sketching with my 0.7mm Lamy Scribble.  Such a fun line on writing instruments.  So disappointed that Lamy discontinued them.  I’d love to find the 3.15 leadholder to go with my pencil and pen.

  • 1 month later...

I use pencils mostly for sketching.  I have a number of extenders so as not to waste the stubs.  This Staedtler extender was unnecessarily pricey, doesn't really work any better than some cheapies I have.  But it is nice.

I mistook this for the what pen thread. I have been thinking how it would be nice to have a daily fountain pen, mechanical pencil and multi-pen.

Have you spoken to the Leatherman folks?

Probably not actually writing anything with this today, but it's a backup pencil I generally have with me.

It's a miniature Retro 51 model that takes 1.15 mm leads.  Not one of their better efforts actually.  The black lacquer coating flaked badly, and it looked horrible.

Still, I rather liked the overall form, so I found an appropriately sized piece of heat shrink, and shrank it to fit.

Oh, sorry, I meant three individual writing tools, not an all in one. I wouldn’t have thought that possible. Is that what the Leatherman folks make?

Today it's a two-fer. I bought a Waltham combo because it was too pretty to pass up. The nib was mangled beyond my repair abilities. A section and nib from the parts bin fit just right, so a Waltham Frankenpen was born. It liiivvveess!
