An unbranded celluloid MP from the 1940s. The pattern is sometimes called "cracked ice."

The pencil is identical to a Pioneer, including the clip and band, from David Kahn, Inc., which is better known for the Wearever brand.

I am using a pencil that was made specifically for me by a maker in Richmond, Virginia.  It has a rich, deep red/brown swirled acrylic, has slightly flattened out areas on a wide section, and is one of my favorites.  It takes 0.5 mm lead.  The only downside of this pencil is that it doesn't have a pocket clip, and because it is not a standard size, there are no traditional clips that will fit.

I still enjoy using it, though.  Maybe sometime I can post a pic of it.

A couple of Staedtler Mars technico lead holders (I misplaced one so ran out yesterday and bought a second one).  Think they've both got 2H leads in them).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I, like many people, enjoy having something that either nobody else has, or something that very few other people have.

For today, my pencil is, I think, the only one of its kind in existence. It was made for me by an artisan in Richmond, Virginia many years ago. Both the styling and the pencil's celluloid material will likely be familiar to many, if not most, of you.

The style is the ubiquitous Pentel Quick pencil (which itself is reminiscent of a classic Staedtler). The material is Tibaldi's red and moss green marbled celluloid, the majority of which was destroyed by a fire.

The last two months I've used my mechanical pencils little, and had a lot of use of a pack of Mitsubishi 9852's in B, which are the finest rubber tipped pencils in their line up, on a par with Blackwings.

Edit: For reasons I can't fathom, these are often out of stock in the UK and US, or for sale for quadruple the Japanese price, which is a real pity.

Today my pencil is yet another one-off, again fabricated for me by an artisan in Richmond.

This one is not made of a famous and rare celluloid, but just an acrylic. Having said that, the acrylic has a nice, rich color. The shape of the pencil is also different; the wide section is gently faceted and fits my large hands rather well.
