Six Words...

The restriction might be seen as an exercise in diplomacy if it were applied evenhandedly.

Ah, there's the rub.

That was my point: that the restriction serves no conceivable useful purpose precisely because it is neither invoked nor applied evenhandedly.

I have reposted GClef's original post, as I really think we should learn something here, specifically mercy. I think these six words are good to live by, without the need of any religious connotation. I know that I've been rubbing people left and right with frank posts, and I would think that this place is a place of unity. Sure, we have our fractions, but together, fountain pens bring us together, for a more unified humanity.

Thank you for reposting, I'd wondered what the fuss was about. mellow.gif I love the handwriting very much and mind the words not at all. thumbup.gif I think they are worthy of thoughtful pondering and reflection. hmm1.gif

The act of putting pen to paper encourages pause for thought, this in turn makes us think more deeply about life, which helps us regain our equilibrium. Norbet Platt

Regrettably I have no idea what's being seconded here; I suspect I would have been interested to read it. I'm not in favour of censoring respectful adult conversation. I imagine that people call for censorship at the point where they feel threatened in some way, but I've never read anything on FPN that would tempt me to do so. I'd certainly never do so simply because my views were being challenged (who was it said "we're entitled to our own opinions... just not our own facts"?). Whoever gave any of us the impression that we had the right to go through life without ever feeling offended, or that it was even remotely possible or desirable to stamp out any opinion which differed from our own, did us a grave disservice.

One of the hazards of the digital age is that people tend to send out messages that might have been better left unsaid. The Leica Users Group forum set up a second forum for people who wanted to discuss controversial issues (with no moderation). Many threads were sent to that forum, and few members followed the thread to that second list.

... loves in spite of our lack of loveliness. Grace is doing well to someone who does not deserve it...

Does true loving kindness, love that's unconditionally, passionately committed to the well-being of the other, not for what they are just now, but for the best they could be, bother even to acknowledge a lack of loveliness, or to question whether they're deserving of grace? I wonder...

It's a repeat, but I like how it looks in ball point.
