Montblanc Nib Pictures

Recommended Posts

I just saw these two amazing nib photos by Greg Minuskin (here's the other - both are links to Greg Minuskin's website images), on his site today, and it really made me want to see the variety of Montblanc nibs. Not having the opportunity to see any of the Writers Edition pens, it makes me wonder what the other WE nibs look like, as well as the regular model Montblancs, both modern and vintage.

I took a picture of my 149 BBB nib - its a 1960s 18C nib that was found in the wild (not by me), having been mangled by someone using large grit sandpaper, then sent by Erik Niksch to Greg Minuskin, who did his magic. Erik put the pen into a 1970s 149 body for me and it is one of the best nibs with which I have ever written. I also took a photo of my 146 14K M nib, my very first fountain pen - given to me new in 1991 - and still very much a part of my rotation.

I'd love to see what other Montblanc nibs look like - please add a picture if you have one.

One of the oldies. A somewhat flexy EF nib.

Gosh, Soot, what a fabulous nib (great first photo). I can see it must be an absolute joy to write with, given your excellent hand! Thanks for sharing.

I have always wanted to collect MB limited edition and writer's edition nibs ... I just think they would make an amazing display - doubt MB would just sell me the nibs though!

Thanks Soot and KJY for those photos. I think the work on these nibs classifies as ART!

From the MB website on the WE nibs: the Carlo Collodi's "hand-crafted nib made of 18 K champagne gold is engraved with a subtle reminder of the story: the cricket – the embodiment of Pinocchio’s conscience."

As to the Thomas Mann, "The delicate engraving of the “Buddenbrooks” house on the rhodium-plated 18 K gold nib brings Mann’s birthplace in Lübeck to mind, which is now the home of the Thomas Mann Museum."

GREAT PHOTOS!!! This may prove too much to take without giving in to FPAD*, which seems always to be lurking.

sunnerd, would you be so kind as to name the pens and nib sizes on the group photo? And that last one, the 139 P - what a stunner! The patina on your 139 P and on the 1950s 146 OB shown by pmhudepo is one thing that makes me really love vintage MBs.

Rosetta59 - I love the simplicity of the nib on that 100 year pen. and great photos Blade Runner, especially the Dumas - I think the fleur de lis on that pen is especially lovely.

Oh well. In case of failure you can always wring the paper to have a nice -albeit somewhat stale- cup of coffee back.

@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.

@lamarax That's what I used! (In reply to black coffee).. But the milk might not be good at all for paper.

Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.

YOu might need to thicken the coffee with something. I admit I have no idea with what. But I'm pretty sure it would work.

    • FineFinerFinest 24 Oct 8:52
No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen

Hullo! I really like making ink doodles, and I'd like to share a few. Anywhere on the site I can do so? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and was wondering where is the best place to sell a Montblanc ballpoint pen? Are ballpoints allowed here? It's a beautiful pen that deserves a great listing. Thanks.
