My Second Cs Has Arrived !

Pen Nut

Recommended Posts

My first CS was a Westminster Vermeil and I sold that a couple of years ago but I always knew there would be another. Today it landed, and I mean literally.....

Ok my true passion is Montblancs in various metal finishes, I grew out of the precious resin a while back and started to focus on their metal pens, but I dont want to start a debate on brand loyalty and that is not what this thread is about.

Now I knew this was a large pen when I ordered it, I like large pens and if I am not using a good sized Montblanc then its a Waterman Edson that I use, but this monster had me stunned for a few minutes upon opening.

So without further a do here a few pics, and no none have been messed with.

Box which is OK I suppose but seen better

Booklets about pen care, a bit of history and as only 50 of these were made there is a certificate to prove this (the monster sleeps below)

Pen. Or night stick or relay baton or as Mrs Pen Nut said "is that not just a tube that contains the pen?"

My usual scribes to show relative size. Montblanc Charles Dickens and Montblanc 146 vermail (they call this the LE GRAND. They know nothing!)

Le Grand meets a proper Le Grand :roflmho:

and posted if you are feeling strong enough

It truly is a stunning looking pen with the overlay being done by H Simpole and it does suprisingly fit in the hand very comfortably.

Will I use it? Cant say just yet as I am still in the fondling stage. (that sounded a bit odd didnt it but you know what I mean)

My thanks to Bryant at PenTime for his help in getting this to me.

Congrats Pen Nut never knew it's such a BIG pen. How does it look when the pen is in your hand? Will it be too uncomfortable for writing?

Nevertheless it's such a classic looking pen!! I am holding off for a CS right now.... waiting for the Marlborough red ripple ... (to be honest, I think CS should do more pens with lever fillers... it's one of their more unique traits amongst modern pen companies... C/C filler is practical but boring)

Enjoy the pen in good health!!

I was tempted by this one, but timing and finances didn't lineup correctly.

It's an eyedropper if I recall correctly. So it probably holds a bottle or two of ink.

Which bit unscrews to reveal the secret compartment containing the normal-sized pen you would actually want to write with?

I have a habit of putting pens in my trouser pockets. That would give a mighty looking display! :eureka:

That gave me an idea to impress someone but the thought of snapping the pen in two filled me with terror !! There is a good review of the pen here for anyone who is interested

You will have to copy and paste as I cannot do the link thingy

It appears that I can !!

Open Herbin bottle, pour into pen, toss Herbin bottle, you're done. :eureka:

toss the caber, realise you have tossed the pen, retrieve the pen then you're done

Regarding ink capacity here is a quote from a magazine (link above)

By using the entire barrel as an ink reservoir, the Great Exhibition Pen holds the equivalent of eight full ink cartridges.

What that equates to in ml's I am not sure. What I will do at some point is fill the barrel with water from a syringe with graduations on it and let you know what it takes.

Nib size wise the Conway is bigger than a 146 by quite a lot. I will post pics, probably poor quality, shortly for you to view.

I'm guessing about 12ml. Have fun and no paddling!

Three 'poor pics' to show the nib size comparison with a 146

Is that nib approximately the size of an MB149 nib? Do you have an Delta Dolce Vita Oversize or Roma Imperale to compare with it? I suspect that this is the big Bock nib, same as the big Delta nibs.

"Is that a pen in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

 couldn't resist

That's a serious pen!

Be careful carrying that thing, someone might think you have a knight stick...

On second thought it may make a pricey, but excellent knight stick!

Congrats enjoy the pen, it looks to be very nicely finished. Have you broke down and inked her up yet? Does it indeed hold a whole bottle of ink, or is there room to spare?

:ltcapd: Couldn't' resist again!

See, size really DOES matter. :bunny01: While we were on a roll.

Watch it with the pen smut. We do have kiddies on the board. As I was warned myself some years ago when I got graphic about pen fondling.

As stated this is the Marlene Dietrich LE. Great pen and is just the right weight for me. Did a review in the Fountain Pen Review section if want to read a bit more about it.
