Moore's Non Leakable/ Gerner Hub Fountain Pen

i've won 2 pens on ebay in one lot and the arrived this week.

one is an moore non leak able 350 safety, with some defaults (small crack in slider, think there are 2 holes in the top cap that are not original, some discoloration), and a gerner hub fountain pen.

Both are made by boston mass.

The moore has an stub nib (american fountain pen co), but has not tipping, so i think this will be an custom job, or would they have come without tipping also? The gerner has a Moore maniflex nib.

Would the moore be the correct nib for the gerner pen? Does anybody has some info on the gerner pen?

I know that the first safety's came with the american nib,but would the have come also wit the maniflex nib?

The american nib is very smooth, but writes too wet, it's like the non leak able leaking! the ink flows to rich onto the feeder, creating blots of ink now and then. You can actually see the ink "swelling" around the feed. Any suggestions how to reduce the ink?

Some photo's of the moore, don't mind the bad pic's!

How well did you fill the Moore? If the crack in the slider will let air into the ink chamber then that will cause the pen to blot like that.

The crack is in the slider(outer cylinder, and has no contact with the ink chamber, so that will not be the problem.

Today i've used the pen a whole day at the office, and it behaves very inconsistent. One time it writes very wet (just not blotting) and if you write for about 10 minutes, it runs dry. After a shake or retracting the nib, the same behaving starts over again. At first to wet at last to dry.

I've checked the cork seal, but no leaks there.

edit:

The pen is filled op all the way!

So, when you extend the nib from the barrel it's writing too wet. Is it like a piston pen you just filled from a bottle or wetter? Does it stay wet longer than other pens? What ink are you using?

I hope somone with more experience with safeties will weigh in.

Thanks,

i need to say that it's by far the easiest safety to use by far at work. I'ts very easy to get the nib in and out with only one hand.

To bad ink flow is stil not consistend, but it's better than the first day. Kinda strange, because normally with eyedroppers if the pen isn't totally full there are more burping problems than when it's properly filled.
