So, Has Anyone's Twsbi Not Broken?

My 540 is a tank and it gets a considerable amount of jostling about campus, car, home etc. in backpacks and on the desk. No leaks or cracks, it holds plenty of ink and is tons of fun to use.

Don't live in fear, it's a pen with a good warranty.

So, after purchasing five or so TWSBIs, I went to clean and ink my wife's 530 the other day and noticed that there were cracks in the grip. I had never taken it apart, so I was a bit shocked. A quick email to Speedy and I received not one, but TWO replacements free in the mail. While I'm not as happy with the nib as I would like, the truth is that Speedy makes a great product at a great price with an amazing warranty. Considering the pen was over a year old and he STILL fixed the problem, I cannot and would not complain...now about getting better nibs...

I have a 530 and a ROC 100. And a variety of nibs. No problems whatsoever. I had some difficulty re-assembly of the 530, but the YouTube got me sorted out.

I have a very early (first "public" batch) clear 530 and a later (but still pre-540) orange 530.

I have not had cracking issues with either. That said, I have not disassembled them much- just to adjust the piston travel.

I have had a Twsbi 530 for over a year and had no problems. Shamefully, I have not cleaned it or used the silicon on the piston and it still works flawlessly. I am pretty sure that it has not even skipped once (Waterman Florida Blue has lived in it constantly).

I love my ROC. My cracked in several places. Speedy and Co. made it right but.... I just got a micarta and havent inked it yet. I think I'm going to bypass the 700 for now.

Have one 540 from when it first came out and its been clipped to my jeans since day one. In the course of its 10+ months of service Ive cracked the section twice, the barrel where the metal thingie is twice, the o ring where the cap and the threads meet has been worn down quite a few times, and scratched the inside of the cap so much from numerous opening and closings that it looks milky or translucent white but I love it.

Its the awesome customer service and reliability of the essential bits (Nib/feed and barrel integrity) that keep it writing no matter rain or shine thats kept it my always and wherever pen for every occasion. The knowledge that Speedy will ship out whatever part you need to get it back into tip top cosmetic shape lets me throw around my TWSBI with ease of heart and has assured them a future customer for their new Vac. Just cant express how much of a fanboy I am for TWSBI :notworthy1:

Like I said these pens (including Noodler's) are still in the developing stages, its good that there are new companies making new pens but give them a few more years in perfecting their design, then I will get one...

I will probably sell one of my 530s if the reports are good on the durability of the 700, but only to keep my total pen count in check, not due to any issues with the 530s.

I bought a Twsbi 540 off The Writing Desk and it developed the same cracks as everyone else. I mentioned this to The Writing Desk last week and lo and behold, today in the post spare parts arrived! Hats off for great customer service :clap1:

I've got several, and one 540 I have gets carried around in my pocket all day--no problems so far. The only issues I've had with cracks have been faulty parts, and Speedy's worked to fix those (i believe the grip section was recast, and he's always been quick with free replacement parts.) I do have some cracking on the threads for my 530, but...well, it's a 530, and those were not as well-made as the current 540s. All of mine write well, though.

While somewhat apprehensive about the stories I've heard, I still think I'm going to be grabbing one as a pseudo-graduation present to myself when the Goulets get them back in stock.

I've had no problems as I mentioned, and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that they're applying lessons learned to the new product rather than starting from scratch. I would expect the materials to be softer plastic like those put through the vice in the facebook video.

Mine hasn't cracked. What it does do though, is every now and then it'll splurge out ink and it goes everywhere. Big thick pools of ink! It annoys me so much and I don't know how to fix it. :crybaby:

(If anyone does know, I'd be grateful to hear from you)

My 540 has given me no issues whatsoever, and it seems their plastic is fairly resistant to staining, unlike some of my other demo's!

Maybe the new arrivals are ok. I mean when the company is going to announce the end of this cracking period? Has this problem been solved by now?

As far as I know, the problem with cracking has been solved in current models. They had to modify the tooling.

If you do have a cracked TWSBI, I believe other posters on FPN have had their pens replaced free.

I have a TWSBI 540 purchased beginning of this year that has been trouble free.

In Rotation: MB 146 (EF), Noodler's Ahab bumblebee, Edison Pearl (F), Sailor ProGear (N-MF)

After little experience my two 540s are fine. If you want cracking problems with little hope of resolution beware the caps on Pelican M400s. The cap on my Pelican cracked in three places after less than one week. Much more expensive pen and much poorer customer service.
