Diamine Ancient Copper

Fabienne

Recommended Posts

Thanks dcpritch, and nice pens, too! I am almost agog at how close all of those colors of reddish brown are! Sailor is almost a dead ringer for Diamine. I was going to do a comparison later today with Diamine Burnt Sienna, PR Burgundy Mist, Noodler's Antietam, And PR Sepia and Brilliant Brown. They are all great colors and fun to compare.

That will be great to see - I have never tried PR Burgundy Mist, but I did have a sample vial of PR Sepia and used it in my sepia ink comparison - now that is a great shading ink, though some have noted flow issues with it. Looking forward to your images.

Nice review, Fabienne. I'm glad you like the ink. It is also on my short list. It is an interesting color, but something keeps bringing me back to it. Sort of like the J Herbin Ambre de Birmanie. They are both a pleasure to write with and shade wonderfully.

I loved Sailor Red-brown, but I may possibly prefer Ancient Copper (!). It's a bit redder, deeper, and, most importantly, available. I've been using it in a stubbish broad nib and the color and shading really speaks to me.

I needed to get a set of dip nibs to do the comparison. Didn't get to it until later and will be doing that ASAP. Darned work getting in the way. I really should do that with each of the reviews I do, with the samples that I have, of course.

Wow, Fabienne. You have a lot of pull. Several people bought this ink after your review. Now only if I could have that much power.... ;)

Nice, I used to like PR Copper burst but any pen I used it in always needed some extra attention when cleaning. I'll have to give this a try, perhaps a Goulet sample :)

Great review, love seeing all the comparisons too. Has anyone had problems with the ink crusting up on the nib? I am in pen #3, Noodlers Nib Creaper, after it gummed up two CI pens. I wonder if it's just a bad bottle, though it's behaving a bit better in the Creaper. I still have to dip in water to get it going, which wasn't the case with other inks in any of the pens. Other than that, wonderful color and shading.

The pen I used for the Ancient Copper Ink is my Twisbi 540 with the 1.5 mm italic nib. The nib I used for all of the comparisons is a 1.5 dip pen nib from Speedball. Just very simple, is the same width, easy to clean off fast and reink for another round of comparisons. Nothing fancy. Just concentrating on comparing apples to apples, so to speak.

I've had DAC in a Bexley Poseidon Magnum with a 1.3 mm stub nib for several days now with. No flow issues, and no crust. I really like this ink. Thanks for the side by side comparisons!

After reading this thread in "Inky Thoughts", I checked the Touchdown I have filled with Ancient Copper. Some crust had formed at the juncture of nib & feed near the section, but there was no problem with the flow. It does seem like the ink darkened pretty quickly in the pen, though.
