I Just Ordered A Hakase...

Wow. That makes me want to dye my hair platinum blonde and wear it slicked back in a neat bob with diamond hair pins, don a white mink stole, and stick a cigarette in the Hakase and smoke it.

Nicely played, Hakase.

@ mongrelnomad ~ WOW !!!

Stunning pens and I mean show stopping beauty there.

Congrats and I would love to see some more pics and writing samples.

The prices are quite shocking as well lol but as with everything the bill must arrive too

Geoduc - as you wish, here's a pic of the nib. I bought two bottles of the sepia ink - mine is the light shade. Seems there's also a darker shade too. How convenient that I forgot to buy a Hakase pen pouch with the pen

Bringing this back as I found a video of the pouch being made....

Funnily enough I do find myself channeling a bit of Fitzgerald when I'm using it. (All you need is a stiff drink and a pen, right? ;) )

Either that, or Babe Ruth...

I have seen that - it's amazing how modernity has not impinged on tradition at all. Part of what makes these pens so appealing...

Thank you! Well, as I said, the bank balance and I have had a minor falling out of this very pen. I know I'm right though! :P

Seriously though, these are the first pens I've ever bought where there has been no question of every cent being worth it...

Maybe they were making mine!

Now that is a stunning pen! Congratulations. Please write a review and post some more closeup pictures of the barrel. Ruud

Thanks Ruud. You know the joy of a new Hakase only too well... I'll surely post more photos and impressions when I get a chance...

Too many pens; too little writing.

Congrats on the pen. Stunning.

These Hakase pens look absolutely amazing.

I want to order a Hakase fountain pen but still 'fighting' with the Japanese site. I know what I want and can't wait to order a FB10A and have it adjusted.

But, I tried to contact Hakase three times over the last month but still no reply. I find that curious and I did not expect this at all. Is this normal ?

At the same time, I contacted Nakaya for ordering a fountain pen and they replied immediately.

Because of that I already ordered a Nakaya Neostandard in col Shobu.

Can anyone help me out here? Love to get in touch with Hakase.

Thanks for the help

I am very surprised that Ryo Yamamoto has not written you back. In my communications with him, he has invariably answered within 24 hours.

Which e-mail address are you using?

Not my experience at all. Prompt and friendly emails have been the name of the game since the very beginning... Are you using info[at]fp_hakase.com?

As requested (and a bit late), here are some more photos of the desk pen. I do intend to do a proper review, so there will probably be a bit of crossover between that future endeavour, and this series of brief findings of another of Hakase's completely unexpected creations...

The detailing is sublime: from the pyramid stopper, to the incredible delicacy of the clip on this huge, voluptuous pen.

The nib: Pilot size 15. Same as it ever was...

And, the main event: the tortoise. Never, ever, look at fake (celluloid, acrylic) tortoise after peering into the real thing. It's not a solid, but rather a liquid:

Hope that goes some way to giving you a sense of this strange and wonderful pen...

nice. i find the clip is very interesting.

It's incredibly dainty; curled by hand.

WOW !

Fantastic pictures of a stunning pen !!!

Looking forward to seeing your review.

Thank you for taking the time to take and share those outstanding pictures of a rare pen!

My pleasure. Just hope I have time to get to it soon...

Jeebus.. now I need to plan my order.

Ooh... do tell! What's the shortlist?

Wow.. The celluloid close up is cool...

Not celluloid: real tortoise shell and buffalo horn. Only the section is ebonite...

Too many pens; too little writing.

A breathtakingly beautiful pen. Congratulations and enjoy it! I have two, and I daresay there will be more. Hakase is the best!

  • 2 weeks later...

Today I got an eMail from Ryo Yamomoto alerting me to a video on the website showing (with sometimes incomprehensible English commentary) each step in the construction of a Hakase pen...

Edit: I can't find out how to embed this, so here's the link to it on the Hakase site. Anyone who can, feel free to post it here.

Stunning pen, on a completely different level to all but a very few IMO.

As an experienced diver, underwater photographer and filmer and nature lover I have to say I'm disgusted (!) by the use of tortoiseshell.
