How could I have forgotten to update this thread?!?!?

Yes, I must be crazy: the wait for another Hakase has long begun. A burlwood with gold clip, due in August (ordered last September)...

Till then, I have only this to gaze at longingly...

I emailed Hakase for the order form. I am still trying to decide which pen to get. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Their range is pretty simple, once you get past the materials. You can have torpedo, flat-top or desk pen; the flat-top is available in in two sizes. Then clips or roll-stoppers are personal preference - they will happily add any combination to any pen.

As for materials: woods, celluloids, buffalo horn or a combination of the above.

I would approach Mr. Yamamoto by email first. He is very helpful and considerate and will no doubt guide you diligently through the process...

I second what mongrelnomad said -- Yamamoto-san is a great help -- I did a truncated version of the desk pen, after some back and forth.

I will email him again. I guess that I'm leaning toward wood or buffalo horn. Buffalo horn would be quite unique. As far as size, the bigger the better, within reason. An MB 149 is about my limit for a big pen. And a clip, because I carry my pens in my shirt pockets. I guess that I have it mostly figured out already.

By the way, Mongrelnomad, your post on your Conid motivated me to order one. A demonstrator, bulk filler, titanium flat top with a titanium nib will be made soon for shipment to Las Vegas.

The horn is a lovely material, very different in feel to any plastics or wood. The standard, larger size, should be fine.

Really hope you enjoy your Hakase and your Conid as much as I enjoy mine!

Thanks for your help and encouragement. I am looking forward to some nice pens. I am transititioning from buying every pen I like to buying fewer, nicer pens.

Hello mongrelnomad,

I've been reading your hakase posts from time to time in the last three years.

I really love the photos and detailed narrative of your posts.

I am looking to order one myself soon, however I wonder whether Mr.Yamamoto-san is willing to customize a Soennecken 111 clip on his own pens?

I love everything on the flat-top cocobolo fountain pen model, save the clip, which is of a great design, surely, but I feel that if attached with a Soennecken 111 clip it would approach divinity.....(for me at least.

Do you have such experiences as for the request of customizing clips with Mr. Yamamoto-san?

Any reply would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you :)

Yours sincerely,

Scott.

Are you proposing to cannibalise a 111 for its clip, by any chance? (I hate to think of any Soennecken being abused...I <want> a 111!)

So, my latest Hakase arrived today. As usual with Hakase, it is completely unexpected. Whereas my other Hakases are weighty, meaty creatures, this is feather-light and incredibly delicate. I would consider it closer in feel to my Nakayas...

That said, it is predictably beautiful. Now to ink it up and place pen to paper...

No experience with customised gold-work. It may be worth a emailing Mr. Yamamoto and seeing where it takes you...

Congrats. It looks wonderful indeed. Is the urushi work as smooth and mostly flawless like Nakaya? Or does this have the handmade variance which you love?

Pity, not going to get mine.

Thanks mate. Like its brethren it shares the evidence of being "perfectly imperfect"; there are variances in the urushi that follow the most extreme textures and contours of the material itself.

What happened to your order? I thought it was all sown up...

Nice. I'm looking forward to a review. Hope the ink you ink it up with is as perfect as the pen.

The payment was supposed to be made in 2 parts for the first half. I paid the first part (1/4) but completely forgot about the next 1/4 I had to pay the following day.

Since the invoice had expired I asked Mr. Yamamoto to renew it so that I could make the remaining payment which made him angry and he started saying things. On most occassions, I would have tried to patch things up since it was my fault, but the with the buyer's remorse coupled with the situation, I proceeded to cancel.

This thread started with buyer's remorse. Makes sense someone posting in this thread should suffer from it. :)

A 165mm pen wouldn't make any sense for a C/C filler. Those things should be 150mm at most or 155mm. The size I am talking about is the Emperor size, makes more sense to get an emperor instead since it comes at the same price. Plus no waiting period.

Honestly, I don't think custom pens are for me. Shame indeed.
