Help Identifying Montblanc 149

Hello,

I have recently come across a Montblanc fountain pen that I believe it was a gift from a great uncle many years ago, but unfortunately has no papers or box.

There is a gold band around the cap that reads "MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK NO 149". There is also "GERMANY" imprinted on the clip ring. The nib reads "4810 14C MONTBLANC 585". There is a twisting mechanism at the base of the pen for filling the ink well. I hope the attached pictures help.

It is in very good condition (just a little scuffed from time and a few tiny scratches) and writes beautifully. Does anyone know when this pen was made and what it might be worth?

Thanks,

Tyler

Let me be the first to say: Welcome to FPN! :W2FPN:

Could you post a picture of the feed (the black piece on the back side of the nib)? That helps date the pen.

There is a pinned article at the top of this forum that helps you date the pen.

I'm sure you will soon get many replies to help you with this. Dating 149s is sort of a hobby in itself here :ltcapd:

Regards, Stephen

1970's MB unibody with a great 14c nib, keep it and ink it. You will enjoy it ;)

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Thanks for the responses!

Psychobabble - I took a picture of the feed, hopefully that helps. Let me know if there is anything else that will help identify the pen.

Georges - I have inked it and have been writing with it for a few months. It is a pleasure to write with and I enjoy using it, but unfortunately I don't think that I will end up keeping it. I am by no means a collector and it has limited nostalgic value so I will probably end up selling it. Do you have a recommendation for the best venue to sell vintage pens? Ebay? A pen shop? (I think there are a few in the Chicago area where I live)

Agreed...early-mid 70's pen.

Get up to 30 posts in FPN, be a member for 30 days and you could sell it here very easily.

Ditto Rick's and Georges' posts: 1970s until 1981/82, when split-ebonite feed replaced the feed shown in your photo. Very nice model! One of the best of the 149s in my opinion. Presently those go for around $300-400 US depending on condition.
