Without the ink view window, why bother?

The pic is of the rollerball or ballpoint which never had an ink window in the first place ...

That rollerball sure has a nice nib, then.

I do agree that we probably shouldn't put too much weight on the picture. It likely is a mock-up or concept, since it's not to be released until the summer, according to the helpful post from The Writing Desk. It's very possible they just put a fountain pen nib inside a rollerball body. Or it might not even be a photograph, but a photoshop image where they replaced the rollerball with a nib.

Just my two cents.

I contacted Lamy USA and found out some nice details. Probably the most important is that it will be available in the US in July at an MSRP of $375 with multiple nib options. The Lamy rep confirmed the image as legit, but didn't have any info on whether or not the cap system was redesigned.

The pictured pen has a nib, thus is not a RB or BP.

All I can see is a chrome-like triangle which may be a ballpoint front-end as well as a half covered nib. More telling is the cap: the sliding type found on a ballpoint pen. I still think it's a ballpoint.

No offense...This is a serious suggestion. If you don't see a nib, you may want to have your eyes examined.

If it helps, you can click on the photo to make it larger. As it is, I can easily see the nib slit.

And by the way, the Lamy 2000 ballpoint has a pushbutton, not cap-actuation.

+1, that is plainly a nib.

I like the look of the pen, but would want the ink window. It's quite a price hike from the 2000 we know and love, so I'm hoping it's a special edition and the standard one will still be available. If not I'll have to buy one before they're gone.

The price hike is due to it being made entirely from SS. It's not a special or limited edition. It will an addition to the current 2000, which isn't going anywhere.

It's an outrage! Expensive, less-utilitarian and not even a Limited Edition.

Yes, this is unheard of in the FP industry!

Grace and Peace are already yours because God is the Creator of all of life and Jesus Christ the Redeemer of each and every life.

To all you people out there, despite the fact that this IS the truth,

it might not be pleasant to hear. Thus, I must say, it's really IMHO.

Of course, I say this in comparison to other members of the Lamy

family, like the Platinum/Titanium coated versions, or even the

Limited Edition "Edition 2000" series, and the Lamy Dialog 3.

Let's pray that the MSRP there was wrong. :hmm1:

Here's an article for reference http://kmpn.blogspot.com/2012/02/lamy-2000-family.html

With respect to the "ears" and lack of ink window, would it be possible to have some sort of magnetic attachment in the pen barrel that the cap holds on to? Something akin to an Apple MagSafe connection. Would make the weighting of the pen something to consider. I doubt it, but if there were a magnet of some shape there, perhaps it explains the lack of an ink window. :hmm1:

I have to agree--I'm not a big fan of the look of the monochrome steel. While there's nothing about a stainless steel body that warrants a doubling in price from the standpoint of manufacturing costs, and good quality plastic pens are often nicer to write with than their metal-bodied counterparts, the fact is that metal products have a higher perceived value than plastic ones and will naturally sell for more. As for me, as a past owner of a Lamy 2000 pencil, I don't see this as an improvement in feel, function or aesthetics.

Better looking [minusthe ink window] does not equal less-utilitarian.

"Better looking" is extremely subjective; some people think a yellow '74 Nova with jacked-up rear suspension and huge slicks is the height of appeal.

I've got a LOT of highly-praised, non-LE, windowless pens that I rather like and people will pay a lot (relatively) for, like a lapis Duofold, or a reasonably green Sheaffer flat-top in jade, or a gold-capped "51" vacumatic, so that combination of attributes isn't really objectionable; refilling on a regular schedule rather than when told to by the pen doesn't affect the utility on my books. I do agree that's rather a lot to pay for a pen, LE or no, but it is apparently well within what the market will bear. If Lamy can make a few extra buck on the backs of folks that insist upon an overweight pen, they're not being any more wicked than any other maker, and they've got more capital to through at plant maintenance and R&D.
