What's Your Favorite Bexley?

Recommended Posts

Bexley makes some really nice stuff. (no affiliation as of yet, just admiring). What is your favorite?

This one is just one of many that have visited my workbench; Bexley calls it Cappucino BX802 I think .... I take the liberty of making up names to suit my taste happyberet.gif

Sorry; no photos or scans.

I have several Bexleys, but my favorite would have to be the Bexley Americana in Rio Grande Red I bought from Richard Binder. I ordered it with an EF point, and it is a pleasure to look at, hold, and write with..

When it arrives, hopefully in an hour or so, I think I'll go with PBIC (Pendleton Butter & Ice Cream). happyberet.gifhappyberet.gif

I have a number of Bexley pens, and am quite fond of all of them. As a collection, I favor the Poseidon and Poseidon Magnum pens. (bottom left portion of poor photo below)

I also really like the vintage style of the Deluxe II pens:

My favorite individual Bexley changes frequently, but the Columbus Show LE from a couple years ago is near the top of the list. I like the unusual style:

I have only six Bexleys (almost hit send and then I saw Greg's Bexley extravaganza - wow!) and I appreciate each for a different reason. If I had to pick one, if circumstances dictated that I sell all but one of the Bexleys, the one I'd keep would be the Poseidon Magnum because of the see-through tortoise acrylic material, the girth and feel of the pen, and its sublime stub nib.

In order from left to right, they are:

  1. 10th Anniversary 1993-2003 L.E., chocolate woodgrain ebonite, 18k Stub nib (2003)
  2. Poseidon Magnum, tortoise with gold trim, 18K Stub nib (2007)
  3. 56 Special Edition, Duofold Orange ebonite, 18k stub nib (2008)
  4. Americana, faceted Yellowstone with GF trim, 18k Stub nib (2009)
  5. BX802 in Onyx acrylic, steel M stub nib by Pendleton Brown (2010)
  6. Submariner Grande, steel Bexley B nib (2006)

I have only three Bexleys and two are the same pen with different nibs: two Corona Summer Storms (stub and CI) and one Americana in Sanibel Blue (CI nib).

Of the three, I really love the Corona with the stub, followed by the Corona with the CI and lastly the Americana. I like the CI nib on the Corona better, it was originally a broad, whereas the Americana's was a medium ground to a CI.

Now, that's a tough question. . .

Is it the 58's, for their mammoth size, light weight and great feel in the hand?

Is it the DeLuxe, for its button filler and ebonite feed?

How about the Americana, with its fantastic stub nib?

The Corona? It is a solid piston-filler DuoFold likeness.

I could go on and on, I have many other Bexleys, but I think you get the picture. I have a modest group of Bexleys, and the only time I could ever find fault with any of them is that one of the fine steel nibs was scratchy. I spend too much time fiddling with it, but now it is smooth and great to use. I probably should have just popped in one of my spare nibs, but I hate to let a repairable nib/feed assembly go to waste.

The question, of course, was not "Are Bexleys good pens?" The question was "Which one is your favorite?" I would have to say that my current favorite is the 58 in mandarin yellow with a fine steel nib. Just a great pen to use, mine is nicely smooth and wet. A big pen that is "obvious" but not flashy. Just enough flash in its color to be fun, yet not heavily ornamented.

Of course, I also have the 2010 Owners' Club pen inked. . .

And. . . my favorite may change next time I re-arrange the rotation.

Still looking for my first Bexley, hopefully a faceted non-C/C.

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing

+1 for the Americana, I will soon have four of them, with a Greenbrier and Sierra Silver to join my Rio Grande Red and Yellowstone in next week or so. My favourite is the Rio Grande Red as it has a 18K Broad ground to 0.9mm CI by Mr Binder.

I used to own a bunch of Bexleys because they looked so good.

I sold almost all of them because they wrote so poorly.

I still have two Simplicities; one was a gift and the other writes decently.

This is my favourite of several Bexleys; not just because it is awesomely beautiful, nor just because it is a wonderful writer, but because it was given to me by someone very precious to me.

Bexley Grande Finale, a grail pen that I thought I would never own but somehow do (with a divine factory stub nib):

Bexley Prometheus- a wonderful pen, big size, and is piston filled.

I'd like it if the Bexley 58 was made with a piston filler, and also the Posidon Magnum.

+1. I would definitely add the Poesidon Magnum to my 2012 list were it a piston-filler (from Mr. Binder of course)
