What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today?

Today's pen is a TWSBI 530 in red with a replacement gold Bock nib.

I want to love this pen. It is so well engineered, the fit & finish are great, but I find it deeply uninspiring.

I really do not know why. I think it must be something to do with the feel of the polycarbonate used for the pen. I just don't like it, same as I dislike the Lamy Vista, which is made of the same material.

I like the shape, and the way I can see the blood Visconti Burgundy ink through the barrel. I just don't like the feel.

Regards,

Richard

New arrival, the "dolce vita naranja" via ebay. Going to flush it and ink it later this week. Pretty hefty pen, nice looking imo.

These are surprisingly nice pens and very good value. The cap posts with a very distinct and positive click, and holds on really well. They are very smooth writers.

Gump,

The only pen I can find similar to that is this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOOKWORM-675-ORANGE-CELLULOID-M-NIB-FOUNTAIN-PEN-SILVER-FLOWER-CARVED-/261015776842?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc5c0ae4a

I have one & the black paint flaked off the filigree after 2 days. It now looks very sad. How is your one standing up & where did you get it? I hate pens where paint flakes off quickly.

Regards,

Richard

That Bookworm pen and the Naranja are quite different pens. I had one of the Bookworm ones and the orange acrylic barrel separated from the lower filigree piece and I had to use epoxy to glue it back together. The Bookworm does not post anywhere nearly as well as the Naranja. The nib on the Bookworm is quite nice though.

Sorry to say you will hate this pen....

It will prevent you using lots of other pens costing 10 times the price.... :(

I had to take mine out of rotation in order to use something else

EDIT TO ADD : Richard you really must try one of these....... Scrawler is quite correct, it is a completely different pen to the Bookworm.

It had to happen some time: a Hero 616 freshly loaded with Diamine Misty Blue exploded.

At least the ink was saved. The pen....

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

As in came apart, all over me, coloring my world with Diamine Misty Blue, which might as well be Baystate Blue for all that you can get it off your fingers, lol.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

oooh .. hmmm maybe I should stop using the Hero Star Trek series and the 616 so much outside of the house ... it wouldn't be too good if that happened then ... I can see it now ... everyone laughing ... and my hands covered in ink ....

Out of more than 20 616s, 'Star Treks' and many other Heroes, this is the only one that came apart on me. And it did so while I was unscrewing the barrel to check ink.

You're probably safe. :D

I hope so, I really like these pens. They work great, far better than what I would expected considering what i paid for them, I wouldn't want them to fall apart on me at all.

Yeah, keep using 'em.

one little tip: if you overfill the sac, it may blurp some ink. (A glass and fingers full of Levenger Shiraz taught me that lesson.) And you might assume the pen leaks somewhere, but no. I usually squeeze a drop or two back into the bottle to prevent that.

As for the exploding 616 I took it apart and cleaned it. Now waiting for it to dry thoroughly before re-assembling and testing.

today I used a green Hero 329 with Noodler's BGG. Perfect match!

Haven't experienced the burping of ink yet since I got those pens over a year ago and I usually have at least one of them inked at any given time .. though after filling I usually tend to wipe around the hood and it always soak up quite a bit of ink from the inside of the hood. I don't know if that is what is sitting in the hood or if it came from the feed itself, but I never experience any of those pens burp any ink out.

Today, it's a shockingly well-made Huahong in a burgundy color, filled with a burgundy mix (mostly MB Bordeaux and PR Black Cherry -- both wonderful gifts from ZQuilts). It writes beautifully but, alas, no model number to speak of.

Thankee kindly. I'll take a look at it. The Bookworm version looks like a nice pen, it just that it deteriorates so fast.

Regards,

Richard

This week, it's a Duke 116, the red/gray harlequin pattern, with Duke Black.

Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.

Today it's the Luoshi 995 with MB Lavender Purple. Took delivery of the Crocodile Boheme tribute yesterday so that may need a try-out!
