What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today?

Today's pen is a red TWSBI 530 with a custom broad italic nib. I have it filled with Visconti Burgundy - for marking up changed drawings. I have to confess I am still underwhelmed by the pen. Doesn't inspire me in any way whatsoever. Can't put my finger on why, either.

Regards,

Richard.

Is it because the pen calls out for something less refined? Maybe a troubled ink like QSH - bright, obnoxious and very red?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I don't think so.

The only other pen I have that's made from polycarbonate is the Lamy Vista, and I feel pretty much the same way about that pen too. I am beginning to suspect that I just don't like the feel of polycarbonate.

I have no complaints about the design - it's impressive, just as I feel the Lamy Vista is an engineering tour-de-force, but there is no spark. I like using my Kaigely K356 much more, even though it's battered and damaged, and it seems to have something I just enjoy about it.

Hrrumph. I'm being too subjective, so I'll shut up now.

Regards

Richard.

I just got a Jinhao 500 in the mail today, flushed it with ammonia, and filled it with Noodler's Marine. I'm happy with it. (This is my first Chinese pen.)

Oh dear.......I have a horrible feeling it won't be your last....that's the way I started....I probably 'accumulated' about a dozen or so since....

Haven't written much more than my signature today...on checks, to pay Dr. bills. G-r-r-r-r.....

Guanleming 2001. I think it was last fall that I converted it to an eyedropper, and it's still half-full (or empty, depends if we're talking ink or ale).

Take Care,

Today, I am using a Baoer 388 (some blue ink cartridge) and a TWSBI VAC 700 (J. Herbin Perle Noire). I was thinking about using the Jin Hao 159 but that pen writes way too wide and wet to have any usable purpose except for signing my name, going to get (or find) a fine nib to replace the current nib so I can actually use it for other things besides signing my name.

I am using my modified K316 Charcoal and a Red TWSBI 530. Soon I'm going to have to try my new Diamine Merlot in one of these pens - the one that empties first.

Regards,

Richard.

I think you'll enjoy the Merlot, Richard. It's one of my faves, at least. Wine-colored, but with a brown undertone that keeps it somewhat professional-looking.

I picked up the Baoer 388 black, with Monteverde Turquoise this morning.

Take Care,

J.R.

JR,

They've got used to me at work. I'm the only one to use fp's and regularly use turquoise (Pelikan 4001/Diamine), purple (Diamine Imperial Purple), blue (Diamine Sapphire), red (Visconti Burgundy), green (Diamine Woodland) & brown (Diamine Saddle). Occasionally the odd magenta (Diamine/YOL Claret) orange (Herbin scented) or lime green (Herbin again) creeps in, but I'm not so keen on those.

Basically, most of the time if it's only internal work I'll use a flamboyant (non bp) colour, resorting to black for stuff seen by external organisations.

Regards,

Richard.

Oh man ! I adore that Diamine Saddle ! The ONE and only important journal I write, I use that, exclusively. (The paper is thick, sort of parchment-type, and it kinda looks antiquish).

You know me, I'm pretty much sold-out to Diamine, but I WILL occasionally find a "bargain" ink, that performs for me. FWIW, they had to get "used to me" at work, as well....but that was many years ago (been retired 11 years, now).

Have a good spring day, everyone !

Only Black for me at work.... :gaah:

And pretty much.....write 6 words....stop........put pen down......pick it up in 15 mins....write another 6 words or less....put it down.....stop.....

I have only just 'progressed'...??? From BP's to G2's and the like at work...

Baoer 79 ....at home....today .....just for notes ...and stuff.....cart has run out ....so maybe I can put some Oxblood in there now....it has been a while...

My black TWSBI, loaded with Diamine Bilberry...at least it will be, if I should write anything. Early on this a.m., I don't have anything on the schedule that requires even picking up a pen (except to fondle it, of course).

Take Care,

J.R.

I'm glad to hear you like the Merlot, Richard... it's one of my favorites, as well.

Continuing my brief love affair with the Baoer 388, I received a new one today. Described as blue, but you REALLY have to look closely, to barely see the blue horizontal stripes on the black lacquer background. Today's shipment was mostly inks and paper, so after cleaning the Baoer it's loaded with Conway Stewart Tavy (which I've been told, is Diamine Denim ?). Whatever, it's a very close match of Bl/Blk, ink and pen. After a few scribbles, this combination is growing on me, quickly.

Take Care, everyone.

J.R.
