What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today?

Thanks for the report, W.C. - I received my sample, and agree with you, completely. Perle Noire is a decent ink, but it just isn't as black as my Aurora, although it's a good ink.

I also tried a sample of Noodler's Heart of Darkness, in a Baoer 388 with a "wide" M nib. This is truly Black, Black. Also a very wet ink, with a little longer than average drying time on Rhodia Premium paper.

I have a couple more black samples to try, but I'll hafta clean some pens, to put the stuff in. Diamine Onyx Black, Pilot Namiki Black, P.R. Fast Dry Midnight, and maybe some more - I'll hafta look. So far, I've found nothing to tempt me away from my Aurora, tho'.

Take Care, people.

J.R.

I want to get a bottle of Heart of Darkness but I don't need another bottle of black ink that only comes in a 4.5 oz eyedropper bottle. Maybe after I use up most of my supply first, which might take a while since I rarely use black ink.

Woe is me ! Wailing, gnashing of teeth, wringing of hands, preparing for funeral service...

My ever-faithful Wing Sung 233 in 'Teal', finally gave up on me (incurable leak). And the teal color isn't available at ISellPens, any longer ! I always have at least one 233 inked, and although it's among the cheapest pens I've ever bought, I've never met one I didn't like. In lieu of flowers, I ask that you make a donation to FPA (Fountain Pens Anon).

With heavy heart, I clipped a Baoer 516 - Monteverde Bl/Bk - in my pocket this a.m. I've only owned this one a week, and it's definitely a funky-looking creature, but like all the Baoer's I've owned, it's a good, utilitarian writer.

Does anyone know of a support group for FP owners, who've suffered a grievous loss ? (Interrment will be tomorrow morning, at the local land-fill).

Forced cheerful grin,

J.R.

If you want to replace this pen, try at hisnibs dot com. No affiliation, you understand, but a very satisfied customer.

In fact, my Wing Sung 233 marks the start of a new phase of my FP involvement, since Norman recommended FPN to me. Try your luck there! (I saw one listed still.)

I am using a Jinhao 888 Dragon Decent in copper because it is the start of the Dragon Lunar Year and my Duke 209 Frosted Black (Matt Black) Gold Trim.

I feel that the Jinhao 888 needs some tweaking as it a hard start and often skips (Maybe a more complete flush is needed)

But the Duke 209 is a dream to use.

Hi there : for your information I have always spent a lot of time on my Jinhao's making sure that the convertor is really well cleaned out by flushing with a tiny drop of ammonia and soap, they have always had some issues with convertors however let me say that after carrying out such flushing the pen should work really well ,if not try another convertor.BY the way I have in my collection over 35 of them plus some of their other brand Baoer, I cant praise them enough, they have fabulous nibs!!!

Black HERO 616 with gold coloured cap. Such an amazing fine writer. For like $3 plus shipping, How can anybody go wrong with that???

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

I don't sleep well most nights, but there is a non-FPN related reason. There are 4 reasons. All feline. They like to sleep on our bed and if we forget to shut the bedroom door (as is often the case) then we have a case study of why felines are actually twice as big as they look, and ten times heavier than the scales indicate.

I must admit I tend not to use any fancy paper for my whriting. Almost all of it come out of the laser printer...

Today's pens are a Jinhao Century Mk2 and a Kaigelu 316 Charcoal.

Yesterday I was talking to a pen customer for my kit pens, and they described their ideal black blank for a pen. It was pearlescent while still being black. So I pulled out the Charcoal K316 and showed it to them, and nearly lost the pen..! The only thing that stopped them from buying one through me was the wear on the barrel finial & rings.

Regards,

Richard

My friend...if the only thing keeping you awake at nights is your feline friends ...then you are indeed a lucky man...

Nearly forgot...Baoer 79 today....tomorrow the K316 gets inked....although...to me the Century is a better colour...and has better balance.....maybe I was right...the K323 sits better in my hand....still...it's early days....

Got a recent release from Jinhao in the mail today; the Jinhao 159. This thing is bloody enormous. Virtually the same size and weight as the MB 149. Looks like a 149, also. All for $11.00 USD. Comes with a converter and a larger stainless steel nib. Smooth writer.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Jinhao (SHANGHAI QIANGU STATIONERY CO., LTD) named this pen the model 159. . .

Have you posted a review of this pen... it appears to be a beautiful pen.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My old, & trusty, K316 is today's pen. Yesterday, while fitting skirting boards and window cills I used my Jinhao Century Mk 2 to do all the marking out. A pencil mayhave been better but I didn't seem to have one on hand.

Regards,

Richard.

Jinhao 189 for me today. It's my first Chinese-made pen. I just received it last Friday. The pen writes very smoothly out of the box. I like its understated elegance. The main motif on the barrel has interesting cultural significance in China's ancient history. That's the main reason I bought the pen, besides its good looks. Sorry about my photography skill, it just doesn't do the pen justice.

I just ordered one of these. What is the cultural significance? I love the way this pen looks.

Last night I wrote a letter to a FPN'er and had a bit of fun with the pens.

So..

[/tab]Jinhao Century Mk2, Diamine Turquoise

Kaigelu 316 Charcoal, Parker Quink Black

Huashilai 2210, Diamine Saddle Brown

Huashilai 3000, Diamine Sapphire Blue

Kaigelu 356, Diamine Imperial Purple

Jinhao 1008 Rhombus Sea Shell, Diamine Imperial Purple (again)

Jinhao 1008 Stripe Sea Shell, Diamine Woodland Green

TWSBI 530 Red, Visconti Burgundy

TWSBI 530 Green, Parker Quink Green.

[tab]Kaigelu 319, Visconti Burgundy (again)

And there were 8 or so other pens from places other than China.

And Today's pen is... The Jinhao Century Mk 2. Just jumped into my hand.

Regards,

Richard.
