HEAVY workload today...sending Christmas cards, with personal letters enclosed in each. Whew !

I hear you !!! Doing exactly the same throughout the week....

Today it's the Dolce-Vita Naranja (again), the Kaigelu 323 (again) and the Boaer 79 depending on the colour I want / need

oh and the Lamy Safari 1.1 (sorry shouldn't say that as it's not Chinese) :roflmho:

None the less useful as it's full of Diamine Oxblood for the envelopes :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

I received my first Chinese pens in the post yesterday - 2 x Jinhao 159s - and I'm very, very pleased with the way they write. I've filled one with Diamine Midnight Blue and it's great. I suppose the true test is how long it lasts but I've got my backup now. They arrived in 2 weeks to the UK as well which exceeded expectations.

Now I'm waiting for a Kaigelu 316 and a Kaigelu 356 to arrive and then I'll probably be back to this thread!

I'm trying to finish the ink in my Huashilai A053 so that I can finally stop using the pen. There are so many better pens available that I want to use instead. It's not that it's horrible, it's just.. nothing much at all.

Whiteside,

I'm glad you like your J159's, and it sounds as if you have some great pens on the way too. You may find the contrast between the K356 and the J159 a bit much to take, though. The K356 is very close to the rather small Sonnet in size, while the J159 is HUGE. The K316 is one pen I am happy to use interchangably with my Duofold Centennial, and given the notional price & quality difference between them, that's saying something. The Duofold is an amazing pen, and really isn't much better than the K316.

Regards,

Richard.

I'm sure you're right that I may find the difference in size a little disconcerting. In all honesty I was bitten by the FP bug and the Chinese pens give me the chance to put together a varied, small collection for less than £25. Thank goodness for this forum enabling me to make an informed choice, I'm not sure how I would ever have known what to try without it.

One of the reasons I started this thread was because I bought a fair bit of Chinese junk before I found any good Chinese pens. There are so many out there it's difficult and expensive to find the right ones on your own and to know what flaws are likely to occur and how fast. Also, I hate fine nibs, so it takes time to find out which pens have nibs that are bigger than fine (as the Chinese rarely give options on any pen type).

Regards,

Richard.

May be I acted as an enabler...

Today's pens are brilliant and not very good:

Brilliant is my Charcoal Kaigelu 316. (Black Quink)

Not very good, my Huashilai 2210. (Diamine Saddle Brown)

Richard.

Last night I flushed and cleaned my Guanleming 978 Accountant, and reloaded with my fresh batch of homemade Pomegranate ink. Paired up with the 2001 Demonstrator converted to eyedropper, it looks like a Guanleming kinda day... all in all, that's not a bad thing, is it ?

Ho Ho Ho !

Got so fed up with my Huashilai skipping that I tried to shake more ink into the nib and .. Thud. Oops. I'd hit it point first unto the desk. The nib has slid into the section to the level where the feed touched the desk. Now I can't use it until I've fished the nib out. This has led to a massive improvement in my satisfaction with it.

Richard.

The first in my parade of Chinese pens I recently ordered arrived last night.

So far this morning I've been using the Baoer 100. It's been writing a very wet Fine, but that might be attributed to the Diamine Oxblood. I've found most of my Diamine inks to be wetter than average.

Shortly I'll be cracking open this Kaigelu 356

J.R. If you like Diamine brown inks you really must try Diamine Chocolate Brown

The colour really is 'good enough to eat' chocolate colour....well at least the colour of 'proper' Cadbury's Chocolate from the UK... :roflmho: :roflmho:

;)

Oh, forgot to add....using the Jinhao 159 with Diamine Bl/Bk today...

This is beginning to sound like the Diamine Fan Club !! I've had my eye on that Chocolate color, too ! Other than my Aurora Black, and my recently brewed up batch of pomegranate ink, I use Diamine exclusively - Especially the Imperial Blue, that's my favorite.

Oh, Oh...and when I showed the nurse at my Dr.'s office my new pomegranate ink this morning, she loved it so much, I had to give her my Wing Sung 233 - it's Ok tho', I've got 4 or 5 more on hand.

Take care everyone,

J.R.

Incidentally, I have Diamine Dark Brown in a cartridge, and in a EF nib, it writes positively Orange to my eye at least....won't be ordering a bottle of that....oh when you fancy a change from Brown.....don't look at the Greens....I said....Don't look at the greens... :roflmho: :roflmho: :roflmho:

I'd really like to hear how you manage to fish the nib out. Is this a hooded nib Huashilai? (Don't really know the model...)

51SH, I'm already using the Diamine Emerald !! I bought it, when I bought the Saddle Brown. I kinda favor the Ruby, too. This Christmas card business is really depleting the supply of greens and reds, around my hacienda. These little Wing Sung's are pretty darn decent (for a $2 pen). I may hafta get a few more, if Todd hasn't sold out.

Later, but not much

I found it was quite orange looking in a cartridge. Certainly not what I would class as dark. Its only slightly darker than the sepia colour.

Ochre is almost darker.

I bought a small bottle, and have used half so far. I like it, but there are are other colours I prefer. Love the Imperial Purple, and ended up with a big bottle of that.

Regards,

Richard.

How long does it take you to use half a bottle?

I have some 30ml bottles, and can't seem to make a dent in them.
