What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today?

A NOS Beijing Jinxing 28A that arrived recently. A very peculiar but surprisingly elegant pen.

At first glance it appears to be a bulb filler. But it turns out that the barrel is in two pieces: a piece that threads into the section, and a blind cap. If you take the blind cap off, you expose what appears to be a blub, complete with breather tube. But if you remove the other part too, you find out that there's actually a full sac in there: it's an aerometric-style squeeze filler, but without the customary sac guard!

Anyway the pen is large, glossy black plastic, and light in weight for its size. The nib is quite large, matching the rest of the pen nicely. And the behavior is rock-solid and elegant. Writes every time, even after a weekend off, no skipping or flooding. And that nice, precisely-balanced large-pen feel. Impressive!

I am intrigued with the Jinxing 28 and am thinking of getting one. Is the nib flexy or hard as a nail. Thank you.

And I have 4 Wing Sung 612's inbound.

Bluefinn:

Sorry to take so long to reply. The nib is a slightly soft fine-medium, and mine came tuned to be moderately wet. But it does not flex or show any noticeable line variation. Not a nail, but not even semi-flex.

Seem to be using the K356 a lot recently. I have also inked up it's copy, the Parker Sonnet and really come to the conclusion that there isn't a lot to choose between them. EXCEPT when I put the BI nib in the Sonnet. I like Italics.

The mailman has been good to me, got three chinese pens the last few days.

One was a Jinhao 159 that I quickly filled with Montblanc Midnight Blue. Wonderful pen, big, bold, smoooth right out of the box...er bag. Only problem is that the included converter did not fit very well, or rather it came loose a bit to easy. No ink spill tho.

Two others were described as Baoer 388:s - one was supposed to be a fine nibbed version and one medium nibbed. They both wrote identical lines with the same ink. The pens themselves were not identical, one was slightly scratchier than the other and the cap was a little looser when put on the pen. Both were a little too small for me aswell (damn you, 159!) so both of them will probably be sold or given away quite soon.

The 159 quickly got topped up with more ink - a really nice pen even if the nib is on the wider side for me. :)

Just got a Kaigelu 336 and a Jinhao X450 for my birthday (I'm still accepting gifts if you're feeling philanthropic...LOL...jk...kinda...). :ltcapd:

The Kaigelu is a hefty pen, but I really like it so far. It's one of my more smooth pens. I don't think I could write for hours on end with it, but I do enjoy its substantial feel.

I haven't spent much time with the Jinhao yet, but I REALLY like the huge nib...makes me feel like I should be signing a treaty or something..LOL. Dangit, now I'm gonna have to go ink that bad boy up and see how it writes. :clap1: So much for going to bed at a decent hour tonight

My wife got a K336. I was fascinated by how it was made. The mosaic barrel blank is really impressive. The shape surprised me a lot, the barrel seems to bulge quite a bit in the middle and that isn't very evident in the photos.

Unfortunately I've not had a chance to use the pen, as Tracy squirreled it away almost immediately.

:roflmho:

I have to confess that a few years ago I bought a Jinhao 1200 and the pen really wasn't very good. Not bad, just not good. As a result I didn't buy any Chinese pens for a couple of years. Since then the pens have improved immensely, and when I tried a few new ones, I was impressed.

[Must nip off & pay for two more now]

Hello to All,

Kaigelu 316; out of the box it needed a slight spread of the nib tines and it now writes superbly :)

Have fun !

Best regards

I got mine from seller pmstylus on e-bay. Maybe you could try contacting that seller. However, they have recently disappeared from the Kaigelu website ( http://www.kaigelu.net/en/index.asp ) , so possibly the model is discontinued.

I can't seem to find anyone that has Kaigelu 323's....Anyone seem anywhere that is selling them....?

Thanks

Are those with the 'mother of pearl' inlays? Funny... just loaded one this morning. My fingers are greeeen but that's another story.

Does xfountain pens sell a rebranded version? Or are they all Jinhao? In either case, dangerous place to shop, lol.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

No, they're the ones with gold sections & 'Italian Celluloid' caps with a quasi Greek Key pattern on the cap lip, as in the photo in my review: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/222864-kaigelu-323/

As far as I can tell, Xfountainpen doesn't re-badge Kaigelu.

A Hero 395 "hammered copper" that I just received from Todd with Diamine Syrah. In person the body of the pen is a bit light than the photo on Todd's site, but not different enough to bother me. I do really like the "rustic" (unpolished?) look of the steel furniture.

I had read about the possible flex nib, and was lucky enough that I got one. To my hand, it takes about the same amount of pressure for flexing as the Ahab. The Syrah feathers a bit on my crummy work notepad, so maybe I'll switch to something like Noodler's Anti-feather. But so far, so good!

Looking for an Omas Arco Verde...the one that got away.

Duke Superme (a Cartier Diablo ko/tribute). Pretty nice so far.

Thanks for the info Richard...I was kind of trying to avoid the US as a source due to postal/import charges

Did you incure any on your purchase....didn't really want to double...or treble the price ...

That is the same seller. I've bought from him on ebay a number of times.
