My new Jinhao X750 (royal blue/black/white) with broad nib. Inked with a new color in the Chesterfield ink line - Antique Raspberry. Having fun with two new ink colors of Chesterfield inks - Antique Orchid & Antique Raspberry.

I've been giving myself a crash course in Chinese hooded nib pens in my (scant) spare time the past weeks (I have a P51 and two P21s, but wanted pens I could use without worry of damage or loss - I can be rough on things...). In addition to my "blue" (quotes because it appears to be Cedar Blue, although I've never seen that as an official P21 color), I have inked up a "real" Hero 616 Jumbo/Doctor with J. Herbin Stormy Grey (also quotes because I believe many of the 616 pens labeled as fakes are actually current production, and the production has simply changed to a cheaper pen), a "fake"/current production Hero 616 with Sailor Jentle BBK, and a '90s vintage Wing Sung 613-1 with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown.

The two Heros write about the same: Med. wet w/acceptable feedback, and the Wing Sung is on the dry side (exacerbated by a dry ink), but perfectly fine.

Jinhao X450 red with black markings. I repaired the plastic inner cap sleeve. Now I have that popping sound when you recap the pen.

Could you explain how you repaired this? I'm sure such an explanation would serve many folks well! Thanks.

I followed the instructions given by SBREBrown on his YT video on repairing the broken inner cap. The video is approximately 7 min. long.

Dabbling with my new Jinhao 159 (yellow) with a broad nib. Inked with a Chesterfield mixture of Fire Opal and Antique Crimson to give it a closer look to Dragon's Napalm--brillant orange. Using both a Black n' Red notebook, and a Sketch Pad. Am finding the nib dry--causing some skipping. Nib has some feedback, however, is not scratchy. Will be tweaking the nib to make it wetter, and a small bit of smoothing. Because of the weight of the pen, I am writing without posting. It is an interesting conversation piece. My X750 with a Goulet 1.1 stub writes wet, so I'm hoping to be able to get the 159 to the same level of wetness.

I couldn't decide which Kaigelu 316 color I wanted, but they are cheap so I got one of each! Spending some time tuning them up.

So, which is your favourite colour now you have them in hand?

In person, I think the amber color is the most striking. No photograph I've seen does these pens justice. The black & gray is the most understated/underwhelming. The other two are simply gorgeous.

But that's where the happy story ends. I've decided pretty strongly that I dislike this pen. I'd love a pen that looked like this and wrote as reliably and comfortably as my Jinhaos. Too much to ask.
