What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today?

I am delighted to see that anyone having ink flow problems do exactly as I have

been posting for a number of years now especially if they are users of pens

manufactured by the well known Brands of Jinhao and Baoer both brands are made by the same company and at the price they sell them for it is no wonder that Flushing out the residue of oil used when making the pen does not appear to be one of

their pastimes, all that is required of new buyers is that they flush out the

convertor using Cold water with a tiny drop of ammonia mixed with an even smaller drop of dishwashing liquid generally does the trick if it does not do it again.

I've journaled with my x450 and played around with my Jinhao 886 that arrived today. It's so little and cute. I really like the screw on cap.

I was quite enjoying journaling last night, with an array of my Chinese value pens laid out before me. I ran out of pages in my 2015 journal, and my 2016 journal (a Rhodia Webnotebook) won't be here until Wednesday, so I resurrected my 2011 journal which still had some pages free in it. I wrote a little about how much I loved writing with my Jinhao X450's, the 886, and even the 599. Then, feeling a bit nostalgic, I started flipped backwards to see what kinds of things I was writing about in 2011.

Among the personal reflections, the poetry, and art concepts... I found some griping about the Noodler's pens I'd been working with at the time. Also, I found the bits where I'd been thinking about spending "a lot of money" on a pen, leading up to the purchase of a Namiki Falcon which ended up never working right. The only cheap Chinese pen that I have similar feelings about so far is the $0.89 Hero 007.

I did spend some time with my Baoer 388 last night and I agree, it's a very smooth pen.

I just inked up my new 99 cent (free shipping) Jinhao x450. This thing writes smooth like butter! It's amazing what you can still get for a buck these days.

Today, I received in the mail some Noodler's untipped flex and non-flex nibs, size 6 I believe (a buck apiece from Anderson Pens). This will be the start of my nib grinding experiments. I hope to end up with some usable italics and stubs, straight, oblique... whatever.

Who knows where they might end up but I may just create a two dollar, Jinhao-Noodler's italic cursive stub (if such a thing actually exists). If all else fails, I can always put back the buttery smooth medium original nib!

Ink has something in common with both money and manure. It's only useful if it's spread around.

I love the look of my hooded nib Hero, but it is too narrow for my hand, although the weight is perfect. The width of the 886 is perfect, but feels too light in my hand. Both write beautifully. I do think I want a fine nib for my orange ink.

I'm using 2 Jinhoa X750 at the moment. Ruby Red with Diamine Dark Brown cartridge and a Shimmering Sands a Diamine Royal Blue cartridge. The dark brown is very nice. Not very dark though but has nice shading even with the stock Jinhoa nib.

I really like my silver / chrome Jinhao 250. I think it looks better than the 450 and 750 models. The down side is that the cap is not postable, but it would be too back heavy anyway. It's a nice pen with a smooth nib.

Right now I'm sticking with my Jinhao x750 with Goulet F nib.

The pen is great in every way, except the nib that's too broad for me, but luckily it's easy to replace, so...

Also tried again to play with my Hero 70 I got few months ago, it's small, cute and beautiful, but oh my god, the nib is scratchy!

Meanwhile I'm waiting for the Hero 616 I ordered to try a hooded nib.

Hm, looks like I started a small collection here...

I am using my Jinhao 159 for schoolwork and playing with the Hero 8009 and Jinhao X450 to practice my handwriting in my journal today. I just love the Peter Pauper Press Journals. An A6 Essentials notebook is my daily carry for notes and handwriting practice.

A bunch of pens showed up today, including the Jinhao 159 that I've been waiting so long for.

HOLY COW what a big fat pen!

I'm doing some journaling with it now with Hero blue-black ink.

Doing some organizing, I miraculously found the cap jewel (tassie) that I had lost from my modified burgundy Hero 616 many months ago. (I had put a gold clip from another 616 solely for cosmetic reasons. Replaced it with a dab of glue this time.) With the semester just about to begin, the timing couldn't be better. Inked it up with some Skrip Red and it's as good as new. I like the fine point on this pen for marking papers- I can get into tight spots and still be legible. I don't ordinarily subscribe to the practice of matching ink to pen, but for red it's convenient.

I'm currently doing some biblical note taking with the Jinhao X450 Red with Black Stripes, with a broad (micromeshed) nib, which is now a wet writer. It is inked with Noodler's ink, and writes beautifully.

I've been having a lot of fun with cheap pens from e-bay (.99 max with free shipping). Grinding, smoothing, and swapping nibs is a great pastime for those gloomy winter days we have around here.

This will be my next victim (insert evil laugh here), it's marked as a Fuquilong 1005, and is waiting in the laboratory for me.

We'll see how smooth I can get it's "Lucky" nib.

Is it wrong that I heard that as la-bor-atory In the voice of Dexter from the cartoon "Dexter's Laboratory"?

I'm using that crazy 99-cent (shipping included) you-can-only-buy-one-at-a-time Jinhao X450, filled with Private Reserve 'Tanzanite'. (The color reminds me of mimeographs.) I flushed it with some soapy water upon arrival earlier this week and it's been a champ ever since. I had to chuckle when someone asked, "Is that a Montblanc?" "Almost" I answered.
