My charcoal K316 and its home ground BI (after I broke the iridium off trying to pull the JoWo replacement broad nib out when wanting to clean Diamine Ancient Copper sludge out).

I really love this pen, but the plating is no longer brassed, but qualifies instead as 'slightly gilded' brass.

Regards,

Richard.

  • 2 weeks later...

I mainly use Jinhao pens due to price, good writing and overall probably the best value for the money.

I'm a lefty and I like line variation in my writing. I recently sent one of my pens to Pendemonium to have a Jinhao nib custom made to be a left oblique. I just got it back today and like it pretty well. I,have a variety of Jinhao pens and I can now change pens and put the oblique nib in write away. Does anyone else have a source for left oblique nibs that would work? I'm no great penman but I do like line variation. I've attached a photo of my humble effort with a sample...I will get better with the line variation with practice.

I changed the ink in my green X450 to Lierre Sauvage and I am in love again. I have a green Jinhao 500 on order to use with Vert Empire.

My newish Baoer 388, which is doing very well with Kiwa-Guro Nano Black and writes very well, along with a Hero 359 (using the ink that came with it) and a Jinhao 599.

Finally inked up my orange Jinhao 159 with Apache Sunset, and it looks great.

Short Answer: No.

I will guess a possible suggestion: X = design intended for export. Just like the red wax on Edam cheese indicates intended for export.

And then they found other pens were being exported & just gave up.

Regards,

Richard.

That makes sense - I'll go with that

Beautiful penmanship!

Today I'm using a Hero Youth that I repaired with nail polish. Loaded with Noodler's Henry Hudson. This pen is reminiscent of many vintage Sheaffer school pens.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thank you...

I would love to see the repaired pen pics

It's not really a visible repair. The pen was leaking very, very slightly at the section threads. Not having shellac on hand, I ran a little clear nail polish around the leak. So far, it's held up, even after flushing the pen.

This just in from China: Another Jinhao X450. What can I say? I love this model. Total cost, including shipping, was $2.84. I inked it up without washing it or tuning the nib in any way and it wrote so buttery smooth. I may tune it to write just a weeee bit wetter.

My Jinhao X450 writes a bit rough - not smooth like my others; anything "easy" I can do to make the nib write a bit smoother?
