What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today?

I have the same pen with me today. It is very nice. My one has a fantastic pearlescent blue on the side opposite the clip. Now, if only I could get the blank to make a complete pen from it, or if they would make a complete 316 from the same material, it would be stunning.

Regards,

Richard.

Funny how tastes differ. I actually think the solid dark barrel with the coloured cap and screw threads work really well, and would not make the whole barrel from the same material.

Today is a Hero 3022 in orange inked with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black. I seem to be filling more and more pens with this ink.

I tried to adjust the picture to show that the pen is not quite this color orange and on one monitor it looks right but once uploaded Firefox is not rendering quite right. It is just a little less saturated than this.

Back to the pen, smooth nib, just not butter smooth; writes a line on the thinner edge of medium; nib is not quite a nail but it has only the smallest amount of flex; if you write heavy there is a hint of line variation. Not a bad pen overall, can only find red ones on eBay at the moment. Bought from YesPen, no affiliation.

Now THAT is one handsome writing implement.

Today I used the Duke 2008; it has a red cap with clouds printed all over it and a grooved silvertone body. Loaded with JH Rouge Caroubier to match the cap color, it has a surprisingly wet juicy M nib, to the extent that I'm smearing the ink.

I had thought it would work as a pen for editing manuscripts, but nope; I need a finer nib that writes on the dry side for that (like the 03 Preppy).

Still, it's an unusual-looking pen. Keeper!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

The pens with me today are my Charcoal Kaigelu 316 and the Jinhao 5000 filigree. The latter pen I'm going to put to bed for a while after this fill of BSB is complete - I don't want to wear the gold off.

I wonder if it could be economically chrome plated? It may not look so good in silver, but it would be much harder wearing.

Regards,

Richard.

I suspect my taste is really for 'flashy blue stuff', which is why I like my Jinhao Century so much:

and my prototype home-made pen:

Yep.

If you think that looks adequate, I suggest you have a look at some of the pens DrGoretex shows in the 'Pen Making & Turning' Forum, they make my best efforts seem dreadfully amateurish.

I received today my Hero 007 pack.

They are quite nice little pens. Wet smooth nib. Light as a feather. The pen description said that they had a fine nib, but its seems medium to my eyes.

The filling system is a bit rubbish though, it does not fill completely, you have to play around with it.

Anyway for the price, they are quite nice.

Hope this isn't too frivolous compared to the really good pens on this page, but a while back a friend got back from Comic Con and told me about the Hero 329/330 'STAR TREK' pens. I just love the daylights out of 'em. Tiny little nibs, but I figure the Enterprise has really great interior lighting so it's not a problem to write small.

:roflmho:

I gave my daughter a Hero 330 'Star Trek' in 2007, and she still uses it if she remembers to fill it (not very fp aware...). Nice pens though.

My Chinese pen today is a Kaigelu 316 Amber/grey. Nice weight and, to be honest, I rather prefer it to the FPN Celluloid Etruria. Maybe because I like the shape more, or because it worked OK when I got it.

Richard.

Love 'em. I think the 330s are on closeout over at isellpens; I just got a burgundy and a green.

I just started using a Jinhao X750. Nice stout pen, but the medium nib is a little wider than I'd like. Thanks to another member who suggested a Knox K35 nib from xFountainpens.com. Just ordered the new nibs today. The pen was very slow to get started, but again thanks to some advice here, I removed the breather tube (more like a plastic stick with a lengthwise groove) and it writes beautifully.
