Graf Von Faber-Castell Intuition Platino In Wood

Walked into my favourite stationery shop in Vienna and had a look at the grenadilla and pernambuco Graf Von Faber-Castell (GvFC) Intuition Platino.

They did not have the complete series in the store, but one grenadilla and one pernambuco ballpoint and fountain pen each.

When first announced, I didn't see a good reason for GvFC to duplicate the wood features of the Classic series in the Intuition series, but the two series are noticeably different and the Intuition Platino comes also with a new, wider nib aimed to match the proportions of this pen.

The Intuition Platino is shorter and fatter than the Classic series. While the proportions of the GvFC Classic ballpoint reminds me of a pencil, the stubbier Intuition Platino reminds me more of a crayon.

The Intuition Platino fits nicely into my hand and is a pleasure to hold, but the feel of polished wooden surfaces does that to me anyway. :P

But if I had to choose between the fountain pens in the two series, I would still lean towards the Classic series, which comes closer to what I consider ideal proportions for a fountain pen, even though the Platino's new nib has me sorely tempted.

I also wanted to see, and possibly buy, the Basic series carbon fountain pen that Faber-Castell recently introduced in the Design series, but the store had only the ballpoint pen in stock. Nice to look at, but I would need more than just a ballpoint to walk out of the store with it.

I'd really like to see one in person but I certainly like the photos. Do you know if the cap on the intuition screws off or is it jus a click on and off? A little hard to justify the price but I would own one in a heartbeat of the right opportunity came along. I don't think it would fit in my new pen case though...

WTB: the following GvF-C classic FPs (pref. B or OB nib) or rollerballs: platinum plated, gold plated, solid sterling silver, ebony anello and gold anello, PM me!

(also interested in most other GvF-C products in general, i.e any writing tools, leather goods, advertising/packaging)

I was looking at the Intuition a month or two ago at my local B&M, if I recall correctly it has a click on cap.

It does indeed, and it also posts nicely. But do try before you buy: I did encounter some caps that were loose when posted (no problems when capped), and had to try a couple before I found one that felt secure.

I received my pen last week, it was ordered for 6 weeks or so. It's the pernambuco with a BB nib, it came from germany as they don't offer the BB in the states as regular inventory. It has to be special ordered.

I love it , and i think it is the perfect size. Slightly bigger than the 146 and smaller than the 149.

Thank goodness they make more than one size pen!

I am trying to find time to do a review on the pen with pictures, hopefully this weekend as work has been crazy.

Yes, the "sorely tempted" from my original post has worked its venom into my veins....

I just pulled the trigger on the Intuition Platino Pernambuco pen with B nib.

I had resisted the temptation so far because of the rather steep premium over the classic series, but the new nib was just so tempting.

Holy cra*! That is beautiful and I am so going to get it... The wood makes it PERFECT!!!!!!

This was the main problem with the other Intuition pens... Plastic. But now it's great, and

I can't wait to get a piece of that wonderful nib!!! :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1:

No one can do better in wooden fountain pens than GvFC. I am interested in the intuition series for a long time. The barrel of the classic series is too thin and the nib is too stiff for me. I notice that the nib is different from the classic, and it is bigger without the breathe hole. As a result, the Grenadilla F writes smoothly ,wet but not too wet. Furthermore, the soft touch resembles CS's nib, but produced in high QC. The cap can pull out directly and when push in the barrel, the cap can not fit the barrel tightly and firmly. I use the 146 old barleycorn vermeil F and the GvFC for daily work.

Their Majesties brought me this fabulous pen last january 6th. :-)

Superb nib. Great shape, I do believe it's one of the best designs from GvFC.

On the other hand, it's sooooooo expensive (more than 700) and I'm absolutely concerned about the wood section inside the cap. Will it get dirty because of ink "blubs" from the nib?

To be honest: such a beautiful pen worths use her. But if this section gets dirty I will be really dissapointed.

If I rest, I rust...

The cap clips onto the metal rim between the nib and the wood, so there's no wood inside the cap. Unless one posts the cap. If there was ink in the cap, and one posted it, then I guess it's possible that ink would get on the wood.

post-90708-0-12875400-1395952155_thumb.jpgI use to work with 3 fountain pens, changing from on to another when the converter is empty. Since I acquired this one, it's stucked in my wallet and I only change the other pens ....

The Intuition is just .... The fountain pen I've been dreaming of since a long time ....
