Oxford Signature Notebook

does anyone know if the paper is acid-free and has archival qualities? Old Oxford paper wasn't.

Yes! I only know the Oxford Optik Paper (present in many oxford notebook models) and the notepad A4 paper. The last one is garbage, in my opinion, very prone to feathering and bleeding. I dont know if notepad is acid-free, though. The optik paper is awesome, 90g/m2, acid-free, archival for sure and slightely better and smoother than Rhodia & Clairefontaine. Most of notebook covers are also better or sturdier than Rhodia and Clairefontaine.

I bought a pack of these books - the Oxford Signature - in A5 size as work notebooks. A quick scribble on the inside back page showed no fuzzyness, feathering, showthrough or bleeding with any of my current (i.e. today) inks: MB Midnight (which is pretty good even on the very worst of paper), Diamine Monaco Red, Noodlers Air Corps (in a broad, wet writer), Visconti Blue and Parker Penman Sapphire (which can show up faults or shortcomings in any paper paper very well). So an big tick for Optic paper, as expected.

It is a pity the covers are adequate rather than lovable. I prefer something that looks a bit more expensive whereas these look a bit 'schoolbook-ish'. Still, it will be great to be able to use any ink I want without fearing the dreaded bleedthrough that obliterates the writing on the other side of the sheet. I would say you can't have it all, but actually, it is possible but no one has yet done it!

My local Staples also have a variety of Oxford notebooks (mostly spiral bound, plastic covered) currently on special offer with the same paper. Around £2 each, they seem good value for experimentation. I also picked up a couple of Signature notebooks and look forward to trying them - the Oxford paper seems to behave well with my quite wet Pelikan M600.

They seem like a good deal.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.
