Lady Shaeffer Skripsert Nibs

Hi All,

I have have four different models of the Lady Sheaffer Skripsert pens. I'm assuming that the Triumph nibs on my models IV & V are stainless steel, but are the "gold tone" Triumph nibs on the models VI & XII 14k? I spent some time looking around the internet for details on nib options, but couldn't find an answer to this question.

Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks much!

Keith

According to the illustration in the Pen World article in 1994, the nibs on the models I to VI are Silver (Steel?) and the rest are Gold. However, I have a number of different variations, some gold and some two tone, but none are marked 14k so I assume they are plated. There's no way of knowing if the nibs (or complete sections) have been swapped from other pens along the way but some of my pens, both gold and two tone, are mint with the chalk marks still on so I can only assume they are original.

I think this is one of the later models in the Lady range, i.e. post 1962. These models vary considerably but have the addition of a clip, finding info about the finishes available is very difficult and I've seen lots of variations selling for way beyond my means. Here's my collection so far:

The red one far left isn't a Lady Sheaffer so ignore that one. Of the rest, all but the three shown below have an upturned semi covered nib. Of the tubular nibbed pens, The one the same as yours and the gold on black have the 14k nib, the white one has a two tone nib with most of the plating worn off. Once again, I have no idea what the original nib offerings where. If anyone else has a greater level of knowledge than me, I would appreciate their tuppence worth.

Just found this thread in the forum, the Gold model appears to be a Lady Sheaffer 630:

Thank all for your quick replies. I was hoping that the unmarked nibs might be 14k, but figured that they were probably plated. Your responses support that notion. Much appreciated. Keith

Hi Peter,

Nice collection !

The Gold pen with engraved band is Lady Sheaffer 630, see the label come with this kit.

I have several of 620/620XG/630, In my samples, 630 come with both 14K Triumph and Finger Nail Nib(I don't have the office name of this nib); 620XG (with gold color engraved band) with 14K Finger Nail Nib while 620 (silver color band) is having silver color Triumph nib.

Thanks for the info, and the tantalising glimpse of the catalog (Can I get a scan/copy anywhere?) and now I know the far right model is a 642 !

I've got a full set of the 620 (FP, BP & Pencil) and waiting for a recent 630 pencil to arrive. Still need to pick up an XG but I have seen them fairly regularly. I did show the 904 with the tubular nib in the samll pic but the other one in the big pic has the "finger nail" nib (I wonder if this is simply known as a recessed nib as per your catalog?).

I've seen a bright yellow model similar to the white & blue ones with the wavy lines but it was for sale as part of a big set for almost £500. There are some others I've seen which I'd love to identify and wish there was a definitive catalog somewhere !!!

Here's one I would buy tomorrow if I win the lottery tonight:

Hi Peter,

The leaflet is from my personal collection, only the front page shows Lady Sheaffer models. If you like to have a scan copy, pls give me your email address.

Yes, your pen is 642, but there is another L.Sheaffer 902XF, which has similar fish scale design (looks more like fish scale than 642). 902XF is having the same length and clip design as the red pen on the left but with white dot on the clop, my sample is having a label clearly shows that it is L.Sheaffer.

In your collection, there are several pens looks like 904 (Black with paisley pattern) with slightly different patterns, can you tell me whether the 2 black pens in the left and right are the same model ? I was supposing there is only one model with this design but your picture shows that I am wrong, I need to re-check those black/paisley pens I have... :bonk:

So far I have been collected 16 different L. Sheaffer (with clip), looks like L. Sheaffer has much more models than I think... :bawl:

Here's the three black & gold models I have. The outside ones are clearly 904 with Paisley design, but one has a tubular nib and the other the recessed nib (both 14k). I'm guessing that at some point Sheaffer changed to nib/section because I have two many examples of both variations for it to be caused by someone simply swapping the section.

The middle one is similar to Tulle but a much closer 'knit', this has a recessed nib but is plated. Unfortunately the band of the section is missing !

I'd be eternally grateful for any scan of the leaflet along with a picture of your 16 pens if possible?. My address is pmylchreest@blueyonder.co.uk.

By the way, here's another of my 'buy when I win the lottery' pens:

The smaller triumph nib ( sometimes called a "Skripsert" nib) was discontinued in 1972. So the two on the right are later pens featuring a "Stylepoint" nib. The blue and the white shown above are not often seen.

Hi Peter,

No problem, I will send the scan catalog to you together with the pcitures of my L. Sheaffers on early next week as I am now traveling out of town...

Your must buy pens are also in my wish list :puddle: but I don't think I will pay more than GBP50 :crybaby:

Hi Happy Harry,

Thanks for your info about the ni, it is in sync with the catalog I have which L. Sheaffer are come with recessed nibs.

  • 3 years later...

Question on Lady Sheaffer XII Tulle in mandarin red - Triumph/skripsert nib..

I recently acquired one of these great little ladies ... I don't know if I got a good deal or a not-so-god deal.

It is in terrific shape-no dents-dings-scratched and cleaned up well. It is amazingly smooth, silky, and shiny.

Any idea or even a ball park price range they sell for ? I trust FPN users knowledge over ebay sellers figures any day of the week:)

Thanks
