There are some exquisite pens on display!

Playing the definition of "best" pretty loosely, here are 10 of my very favorite pens (I picked 5 vintage and 5 modern):

black and white LeBoeuf 75 with stub nib; Waterman turquoise Patrician; very early Waterman eyedropper in uncommon chasing pattern; Esterbrook dollar-fifty pen in blue cracked ice; Sheaffer "first year" Crest with sterling silver cap; Omas Arco; Omas Galileo; Pelikan White Tiger; Omas Arlecchino; Delta/Chatterly Oro-based orange/black marbled #2 of 2.

Not many changes to my pen collection in the last 11 months, much less the "10 Best." However, there is one change worth noting.

A couple months ago, I made a cash+pen trade for an exotic pen I didn't think I'd ever own. Had to send some $ (not a big deal) and cut my old-style Arco loose (somewhat painful,) but was able to land a Namiki Emperor in vermillion urushi with a nibmeistered stub (semi-flex) nib.

So, in the pic above, replace the Arco with the Emperor, and that's my current "10 Best" list, keeping to 5 each, modern and vintage.

(I'll try to get a better-than-camera-phone pic taken soon.)

Best Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive, Vik!

And congrats to your new and excellent pens.

The Astoria and his filling mechanism are amazing and reminds me to a Matador that I had once...

The Matador Turbo was fitted also with this twist/push mechanism. For the Swiss market, the Matador was called Turbino, because the trademark Turbo has already been registered.

Whaat... you dont have that Matador anymore :(

I thought you liked it so much I deemed it inappropriate to ask if you'd let it go. Oh well.

The real reason why these are fast becoming my favorites

Christof, it'll be hard to beat what you accumulated in 2012, but then again, you never know. Happy hunting!

Wow, what a beautiful collection. I am just going to print it out and use it for a shopping list at the LA Pen Show.

Well, I've thinned my collection down to 4 pens currently, so I can't even make a top-ten.

1. MB 149, fine nib

2. Conway Stewart Churchill, medium nib

3. Visconti Homo Sapiens, fine nib

4. Pilot Vanishing Point Raden Water Surface, fine, medium, and broad nibs

My Pilot 823 is currently having the nib worked on. I'm confident it'll be a great pen when it returns. I'll probably add a Pelikan M1000 to my collection in the next few months.

I try to keep the population down, so as I write this, I don't know if I'll make it to 10. But, in no particular order:

  1. Pilot Custom 823
  2. Pilot Justus 95
  3. Noodler's Konrad Ebonite (it's seriously amazing)
  4. Noodler's Konrad regular (not as amazing as the ebonite, but decent)

So, as it turns out, I really did run out. I have a limited collection of brands and pens, and these four are the ones that I truly love.
