Lamy Safari Alpin White Question

I recently bought a Lamy Safari 'Alpin White' fountain pen on ebay. To my surprise, there are some differences compared to all the other Lamy safari pens I have, so I just wanted to ask the members whether if you have observed similar differences?

I also have the regular white version, and Alpine White seems to be a little darker shade of white, not like ivory, but off-white.. do you think that is how it is supposed to be? or is it because maybe the item was exposed to sunlight for months on a display cabinet or store window?

also, the most significant difference is at the very bottom of the pen; where it says 'GERMANY' the bottom of the fountain pen has a very 'breathing holes' underneath the circular area where GERMANY is written, and there is a deep gap there. On the Alpine white, that gap is more shallow and there are no holes around the circle.. I don't know whether if this is a very strange way to describe, but english is not my mother tongue and this is the best I was able to do..

If you happen to own both versions of the white pen, can you share photos? That would be great!

Happy New Year Everyone' :)

I don't have a white Safari, but a gloss (shiney) black one bought in 2011.

There is a groove of about 3mm deep, and air holes under the "Germany" word.

I can get air to flow through these holes, I think it's a safety thing, for children.

The older alpin white Safari is definitely a darker shade of white. Not my much but it is noticeable when you hold the pens side by side in your hands. The photos below probably won't show the difference well. One thing I noticed is that the newer, current production white Safari is a few millimeters longer than the older alpin Safari.

uh, interesting. is it the barrel that is longer on the new one or is it the cap? it would be strange if they changed that. If all parts are of the same length, it could be that the rubber inner cap is somehow longer?

The barrels and caps appear to be of similar lengths, but the new Safari's cap seems to seat itself on the barrel sooner thus making the new pen longer. It begins to snap closed right at the light grey rubber o-ring. The alpin Safari's cap moves slightly past its black o-ring before it begins to snap closed.

hmm, this could be from frequent use, capping, uncapping, capping... because the inner cap (that holds the cap on the pen and makes that "click" sound) is some sort of rubber and when pressing the cap too hard on the pen it can deform and get "shorter" over time... just a thought.

Thanks so much for the photos fourseamer! Thanks to you, now I am sure my pen is not fake! :) the bottom is definitely different there were no holes back then.. I think they improved/changed the design a lot.. I never noticed the height difference but I will put them side by side again as soon as I go home.. well, the only reason I got this pen is because it is nicknamed as 'stormtrooper' among collectors, and being a Star Wars fan myself, I needed a stormtrooper next to my Darth Vader Lamy (the shiny black :)
