Hands down the Hero 616 jumbo / doctor, and, I would add a Parker Jotter.

The Baoer Skywalker that I got from isellpens.com is an amazingly great writer.

I also really like the Hero 616s I have - one's been rattling around in my bicycle for the past few weeks as I'm in the middle of a bike tour in Africa, and it's been working fine. Not only that, it is actually a very enjoyable pen to write with - so much so, that I've bought myself a Hero 1000.

True bliss: knowing that the guy next to you is suffering more than you are.

I just came across a new high quality disposable fountain pen - the BIC fountain pen. Yes, BIC.

It is a very competent writer, easily on a par with the disposable Pilot Varsity. It may be a smoother nib as well, and, in my opinion much better looking than the Pilot.

Did I say very smooth nib? Yes.

And for those who appreciate high value Chinese pens - this one is made in China.

And the nibs sizes available are?

It's a toss up between Waterman Kulturs all bought at car boots, and my Lamy Pur - lovely lovely nib and so easy to write with.

A Parker 45 flighter from Oxfam has also proven a favourite as it has such a lovely nib. I agree with nxn96 - you can have a lot of fun with it. (I don't even *like* metal pens...)

I like the Safari, I like the Pilot 78g, but they feel a bit too light in the hand for me, somehow, to be real favourites.

Another 'cheapie' if you strike lucky with your purchase (ten quid or so) is the Parker Slimfold. A gold nib that writes like butter for that price? Crazy! I seem to always get a Slimfold whenever I buy a mixed lot of old pens - and ALWAYS in burgundy for some strange reason.

Too many pens, too little time!

I have only seen a medium. I usually prefer a fine nib but this is not too broad for me.

My Jinhao Model 159 is a great pen. It writes smoothly and feels good in hand. Looks good too. Next to that would be my Lamy AL pen.

My best cheap pen is one I bought in Sweden. It is made in Germany and is currently lost so I can't find the manufacturer. It was about ten bucks (in Sweden nothing is cheap!).

I also found a Pelikan 140 for 40 crowns (about six dollars) at a flea market.

I found the little pen from Sweden. Not German, but Dutch, I think. Brandname is Bruynzeel with a medium nib made in Germany. It's a nice little writer.

I love my LAMY Safari, I use one every day. But the best "cheapest" pen I have used is an old Scripto School Pen. A one dollar pen in the 1960's But it writes very well. Takes Noodler's ink like a champ.
