Here is the stand that I been looking for!

I already ordered 1 but may change the order to 2 for a back up case(don't have many pens).

When I get this I may stain the finish darker.

I have one of those cresent moon shaped acrylic ones which is nice enough, especially when you consider it cost me less than $3 including shpping. Caveat on it though, the ndents and dimples arent quite big enough for all pens and it doesn't hold pens with flat surfaces well (either flat top or bottom or even the sides i.e where the barrel isn't round). All my parkers fit fine but lamy safari and al-star don't like sitting in there at all, you can lean them up in there but they don't sit secure at all.

The wood and glass ones are real stunners though. If I ever got together the collection of hardwood GvFC pens I want I think I would have to invest in something like that, I reckon it would really make the pens pop. Some of the prices in the link above are more reasonable than wold have guessed based on the prices for similar things I've seen n eBay...

Hmmm every day I become more and more convinced that this forum is part of a giant marketing conspiracy from the big credit card companies and the fine stationary industry to encourage extravagant spending. Why must they make such nice, nice things, WHY?!?

WTB: the following GvF-C classic FPs (pref. B or OB nib) or rollerballs: platinum plated, gold plated, solid sterling silver, ebony anello and gold anello, PM me!

(also interested in most other GvF-C products in general, i.e any writing tools, leather goods, advertising/packaging)

What about a desk inkwell stand like an Esterbrook with desk pen or double stand?

I'll echo Jeffery's recommendation re: the wooden test tube racks. Functional, inexpensive and can be easily stained to suit your preference.

My circumstances made me feel uncomfortably leaving any fountain pen on my desk at work ( high school classroom) I them in my brief case, closed or in my pocket. I did have a double Sheaffer desk pen set on my desk. One was a fountain pen and the other was a BP which I let people use who wanted to borrow a pen while at my desk. Since the 'cap' was attached to a heavy piece of glass, they didn't ever walk off and disappear.

Looks just like the Bombay Company pen display case I have (and that orfew mentions above). I use mine at home to display certain pens that have a lot of sentimental value- my father's Snorkel, some vintage Autopoint fountain pens & pencils and a Parker "51" DJ Vac set. It's very handsome, but I think better suited for display than daily use.

I've really had good luck using a chrome plated 4-brush across toothbrush holder that I bought from Bed Bath & Beyond a few years ago (although I'm sure just about any Kohl's, Target, et.al, has much the same thing) to keep pens handy without jamming them in a cup.

Also, under the heading "this works for me, but maybe not for you": I am a Parker "51" user and keep a "51" deskset on my desk and a spare regular barrel/cap in my desk-drawer so I can take the pen home once in a while to swap it out (as opposed to keeping inks in the office). The barrel and cap aren't "pretty"- the barrel has someone's name impressed on it, and the cap is a heavily brassed gf cap with a lot of dents and dings; however, they work fine for transporting the desk pen home and back.

Hope this helps.

you mean something like this??

Yeah something like that but was hoping for something wood. I can't see that plastic would be that strong.

Here, a wooden pen stand for 3 pens and 1 ink bottle, available from Levenger for $38. I wouldn't buy the plastic pen stand in the picture above either, since it looks like the pens can get knocked off quite easily by a moving hand

I can't find it on their website for the life of me. Do you know if they still sell it?

Not wood, but I liked its presentation.

The old HisNibs Black Onyx acrylic pen stand is permanently on my desk; nice and compact while being stable.

I have the 3 pen version, you can see it kind of archived on his website:

Brilliant. As long as the holes are big enough, toothbrush cups can be inexpensive and come in all styles.

The last thing I want to do at work is to draw attention to my "personal property" pens. People are coming in and going out throughout the day and I prefer not to make other people find or identify my stuff on my desk easily. I share my office with my sister company's staff and I have my own budget. So, I even hide my office stationary stash from the preying eyes from my sister company's staff who tend to grab something when they need it regardless who owns that particular stuff.

There are some good examples of pen stands and I would be more interested in having one of them at home.

I can use my case at work if I wish because I have a private office and a door that I can lock. I do not think that I would bring my stash of MBs to a communal office environment. Tha would be asking for trouble.

A very functional pen holder can be made from a block of wood by drilling some holes in it. If you have a shop or someone will do it for you, you can have something fabricated with a few minutes of work (except for the staining/finished, should you want that on it). Use e.g. a 12 mm or 1/2" brad point bit and drill 20-30 mm into the wood. Use your grandpa's brace and bit if you need to.

Played with Google SketchUP and here is a suggestion for a TWSBI stand design :

This is what I use at work. It is more of a pen rest than a stand. I usually pull out two pens for the day at the beginning of the day. I have a pen roll I keep in my purse that holds 11 pens. The rest has a matching cup, but that's where I keep the ballpoints for others to use. My husband made them from some scraps in the workshop this past summer. I did the sanding and finishing, and yes, they do need more, I just was impatient to take them in!

Edited to add.. sorry for the grainy photos, I only have my phone for photos when I'm at work.

I don't know for sure but from the picture that plastic looks like acrylic....much stronger than most wood.

I use the styrofoam inserts from my .308 rifle cartridge boxes.Fits all my pens quite nicely.Well, that is until today,my Ahab showed up and it is one big pen.

Perfect excuse to get a .577 Nitro or .505 Gibbs? :eureka:

And it could easily be made from any exotic or figured wood that catches your fancy.

Here is what I use. I have not seen them available for some time, but they do pop up on the bay from time to time. They were manufactured by the Bombay Company.

Once I get my shop setup, I'd like to try making a display stand like this!
