Noodler's Ahab Flex Pen

Here's mine. Ivory Darkness!!!

After I disassembled the whole pen and cleaned it, I found I needed to push the feed back about one slit from stock to get really good flow. I can write as fast as I want and it keeps up using Diamine Oxblood. Stoked so far!!!!!!!

I like the Ivory Darkness colour and pattern.

Ooh, I've got to have one of those. I think I'll order one and tell my husband I've taken care of his Christmas present for meeureka.gif

Seek that which is true, beautiful, and good.

For someone with a FPN Stipula Modello-T on the way, is there a reason to get an Ahab? Enable me please, people!

It's Flexy, it's affordable! it's it's a fountain pen!

You can take this out when your Modello-T is just too much bling!

It slices! it dices! it's lest addictive than Esterbroks...

Er..

Ok, there isn't a 'good' reason. If you don't buy any that just leaves more for us!

Uh ... LOL ... no, the Goulet's don't flush and clean your pen for you. I would certainly suggest that you do clean it, just to make sure there are no oils left to interfere with your writing. I am thorougly enjoying my Lapis Inferno! Writes smoothly and since I have a bad habit of writing very quickly, it keeps up with me beautifully!! Absolutely zero problems!!!

No, no. I didn't mean flush it for me. I meant disassembling the nib and carving on the fins/slit that I've read so many people having/choosing to do.

Oh ... :) ... I didn't have to do any of that. I just cleaned the pen, inked it up and off we went.

Fantastic review, Sam. Thank you! I have one of the Noodler's flex pens that has not quite flexed like I hoped it would. I'm very seriously thinking of the Ahab, perhaps later in December or after the first of the year. :)

I've tried the t-flex nib that stipula is putting on the Modello-T. It isn't as flexible as the Ahab. It is more of a "springy" nib. So, I think you should get both... heck it's only $20. :)

I reeeeeally want an Ahab but 1) bank account disagrees with me just now and 2) Brian Goulet says that the next batch (due in December) will contain tinted demonstrators. Tinted demonstrators! Plus, these will have the double O-ring already installed.

But... tinted demonstrators! Alas, there will not be a "smoke" tint, but I am hoping for a nice green or yellow.

There was a photo of the new tinted Ahabs on Facebook today. You're in luck swanjun, they have both yellow and green :). I'm kind of eying that yellow one myself. Here is the link to the Noddler's Ink site.

So.... beautiful! Thank you for sharing! That amber is everything I wanted it to be. *waits impatiently*

ETA: I think you can see from the amber demonstrator that the double o-ring is in place.

Hi Shaylen,

Thanks for your writing sample. What size grid is the paper? I'm trying to assess the fineness of the nib when unflexed.

I sure hope so! That's what happened with the other TWSBI color I wanted so badly. Couldn't afford but one at the time, then when I had the money, it was no longer available! Very disappointing!!

The new tinted demonstrators are now listed in the 'coming soon' section of Goulet Pens. You can't pre-order but you can at least sign up to be notified when the item is in stock. Got my name down for an amber!

Not great lighting, but you can see the line variations. Ink choice might make a huge difference, based on my limited experience. Noodler's Purple Heart was a gusher, but the Bulletproof Black is better behaved.

Please don't laugh at my lousy writing embarrassed_smile.gif It was just a quick doodle.

The Oxblood looks fantastic on Clairefontaine, but feathers bad on cheap paper. Like I said earlier, after I disassembled the whole pen and cleaned it, I ended up pushing the feed back about one slit farther in than the stock position was. It wrote fine as stock, but with it just that little bit farther in I can write as fast as I want and it keeps up, even while flexing.
