Great review hitting all the highlights!

1. Nib: I just wanted to add a few things about the flex nib. First, without pressure it writes a very fine line and with medium pressure it goes to a decent BB. What I've found to be extremely important in playing around with flex nibs (my limited experience and info from Mauricio's website :D) is that in order to get the script to look amazing you need the nib to "snap" back to its original shape. Thus making the thick to thin lines more pronounced, but most importantly to go back from a thick to thin line. I've been playing around with it for several days and the new ahab nib does this really well. While applying pressure to lay down a really thick line it doesn't leave a blob of ink as you return on the upstroke. The ink flow easily keeps up with whatever I'm writing without flexing it, but also with flex :D. I rarely railroad now.

One last thing about the nib. It's extremely smooth to write with. I mean all the previous noodler's fp nibs were smooth as well right out of the box (very little scratchiness).

2. Smell: So it's still got that initial smell, but certainly not like the first noodler fp that I bought months back. I barely smell it unless I place it a few inches away from my nose. I know from the previous noodler's pens that the smell even got on my hands and it sort of took over my room. None of that this time

I took this picture this morning outside of the New Bedford Whaling Museum with the Ahab Pen. I remember seeing a photo of a Noodler's pen next to a Yard Stick that said "New Bedford". It's funny because I have that same yard stick!

Wow, now I really can't wait to get my Ahab. Nathan never mentioned that a camera was included. Much better quality than an iPhone.

Here's mine. Ivory Darkness!!!

After I disassembled the whole pen and cleaned it, I found I needed to push the feed back about one slit from stock to get really good flow. I can write as fast as I want and it keeps up using Diamine Oxblood. Stoked so far!!!!!!!

I'm waiting for mine from Goulet. Am I going to have to pull it apart and clean it up before I use it? Or, as I'm hoping, the Goulet team has done this for me?

I had a special edition made that has an integrated 10MP digicam. It also has an LED light in the barrel to take photos in dim conditions.... :)

The following link has my initial observations of the Ahap pen ... look for post #42.

My sincere thanks go out to SamCapote for all the great work he has done describing and depicting the new Ahab pen in his review.

Great photos guys ! Sam, thank you for an amazing review.

I actually watched Moby Dick the day my Ahab arrived to commemorate the occasion :).

I really am impressed with the Ahab. I got the Lapis Inferno and I don't think the photos of the pen do it justice. It has a beautiful depth of color to it that I didn't expect. After seeing the photos of Ivory Darkness I just might have to put that on my wish list. I have been pleased with my regular Noodler's Flex pens but this one really is a step above. Hats off to Nathan for all his hard work and dedication. I think he has a real winner with the Ahab.

I reeeeeally want an Ahab but 1) bank account disagrees with me just now and 2) Brian Goulet says that the next batch (due in December) will contain tinted demonstrators. Tinted demonstrators! Plus, these will have the double O-ring already installed.

But... tinted demonstrators! Alas, there will not be a "smoke" tint, but I am hoping for a nice green or yellow.

Uh ... LOL ... no, the Goulet's don't flush and clean your pen for you. I would certainly suggest that you do clean it, just to make sure there are no oils left to interfere with your writing. I am thorougly enjoying my Lapis Inferno! Writes smoothly and since I have a bad habit of writing very quickly, it keeps up with me beautifully!! Absolutely zero problems!!!

There was a photo of the new tinted Ahabs on Facebook today. You're in luck swanjun, they have both yellow and green :). I'm kind of eying that yellow one myself. Here is the link to the Noddler's Ink site.

For someone with a FPN Stipula Modello-T on the way, is there a reason to get an Ahab? Enable me please, people!

Well .... because I didn't/you don't have an Ahab. Now, I do ... maybe you will too! LOL
