What Does "duofold" Mean?

We should also point out that it is a violation of law to Copy and Distribute pages of a copywrited book.

The statute of limitations may have run out in this particular case.

Bottom line is nobody knows. It was the name thought up by the seller who was instrumental to the development of the Duofold from the Lucky Curve, and it stuck.

It became a phenomenally successful seller, making Parker the major pen manufacturer and so the name was reused regularly, rather like the Ford Mustang.

Parkerpens gives as good an explanation http://parkerpens.net/duofold.html

Duofold certainly has a better ring to it than button-filled sac pen.

Don't be a hater: that's my dog's name.

"Duofold" was meant, then, to trump (gah) "Manifold" as a marketing ploy.

I affirm that DUO comes from duo-sleeve cap. On the other hand FOLD is a contraction of its special adaptation for manifolding (make manifold carbon copy work, a very useful attribute at that time)

DUO from: Duo*-sleeve cap, let's see it:

*This Duo always written with capital letter by Parker.

fpn_1546901886__duo_4__lazard.jpg

... and FOLD, because DUOFOLD is manifold (1):

Explained at last; another thing butterfly.

(1) I will write soon about the origin of these word, manifold, and how they could manifolding at that time previous to Pendom´s birth.

Can we get the bibliographic information for the ads in the images where it is not obvious?

Thank you

Ive been thinking that the Duo name originated from the new remarkably different two colors of this pen (for the time) and the cap name for description of cap as a marketing tool. The reason for this idea is that the color of this pen was really the only unique new idea by Tibbits who had some of these 2 color pens made. The 26 was the same pen. If the Duo name was used prior to the Duofold then likely would be referring to the cap. My theory ha

Yeah, but in their minds Duofold outdid Manifold. A typical American one-upping. I always wondered where Duofold came from, and that story tells it. The pen lore is interesting, but I still think the name Duofold stumbles off the tongue.

(1) I will write soon about the origin of these word, manifold, and how they could manifolding at that time previous to Pendom´s birth.

In general "manifold" meaning comes referred to "multiple" so you, outside Pendom, could read, e.g. manifold mercies, manifold uses, manifold good things. manifold bleffings, manifold activities and so on.

In the writting universe "Manifold" comes from a kind of notebook / book already devised at the beginning of the 19th century to be able to manifolding or manifold purpose (which is nothing else than make duplicates of a writing with carbon copies -carbonic paper in origin-) which was called THE MANIFOLD LETTERS WRITER BOOK. During Pendom making carbon copies was something of everyday for a lot of people and they needed a strong and relatively fine point nib to be able to use it for manifolding, for manifold purpose; that is a manifold nib; one that serves for manifolding. The catalogs of many fountain pen manufacturers of the time offered their manifold nibs - e.g. Parker in catalalog previous to Duofold, Waterman I want to remind that they even had a fountain pen with a green color so you would know it was mounted with a manifold nib on the other hand the formidable Big Red nib or Sheaffer'S nib number 8, weighing 2 grams, for example, were and are very suitable fot manifolding; you can press and make 5 or 6 carbon copies of a single writing! Walter threw a 8C to the ground as if it were a dart and then continued writing ... make 6 copies is something much smoother.-smile-

Lets call this new pen Speculation.

George, that is going to be hard to market.

What do you want to call it?

How about Duofold?

Ok, I guess that will mess with them 80 years from now. Tell the copy writers to dream up a few things and paint it on my airplane, I’m going to toss a few out the window at 5000 ft.

Lets call this new pen Speculation...

Oh yes, something of that seemed to me, so hence my intervention; to clarify the meaning and basis of DUOFOLD because probably there had been a lot of speculation previous in this topic. Geo. Parker knew the manifold nibs from 30 years earlier as telegraphy teacher that he had been, there are evidence of Parker manifold nibs long before Sheaffer was born in Pendom, and on the other hand Parker had manifold nibs in his catalogs many years before Duofold pen hence for Tebbel, as seller of these popular nibs, it was his daily bread. There is nothing new in Duofold: it is a contraction of two characteristics of their fountain pens long sold ad highlighted by them previously.

Yea, whatever. The Duofold is the name for a iconic vintage Parker pen. Just like Khan is the name for a antique human here. :D

I am not attempting to start an argument, but there is a doctrine called "Fair Use" that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses—such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research—as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use.
