Wall Storage For Ink Bottles

Maybe you could add a shelf?

I'm tempted to, though I'm not very confident I could match up the color just right.

If you can figure out the type of wood and finish used, you should be able to get an OK match. How about using a contrasting colour? Then it will looking like an intentional design element. :)

like them both! (ershen, And fiberdrunk).

Ershen, any chance you are passing through NC? ; ) (fd needs a shelf).

What color woodwork do you have in your home?

Either exact match or total contrast. (free opinion ; )

Don't you think fiberdrunk's shelf looks like golden oak?

unsure.gifsure hope it's mounted securely to that wall.. my imagination is seeing ink in glass, perched on a wall, ready to make hUge pond.blink.gif (worry warting; )

USMCmom's window shelf looks so secure!

edited to clarify.

And, your freehand! lettering looks great!

Okay here it is with the lettering routed (freehand) into the top face frame. Turned out okay for freehand work but I think I want the lettering to be a little deeper so when I go to paint it black it will 'pop' out more. From there I will sand everything down and wipe it down with some diluted shellac to 'precondition/prime' the pine wood for staining later. All in all, I think it turned out good. Any thoughts on what color to stain it? :hmm1:

No plans to pass through NC anytime in the near future.

I plan to route insets for 'keyhole' fasteners in the back to secure it to the wall. Hard to see but each shelf also has a face frame 1/4" offset lip (it is not flush to the to of each shelf) to prevent the bottles from sliding off the shelf. I thought that was good enough since Texas doesn't experience any noticeable tremors or earthquakes to justify putting a clear door on the front.

Currently I have pine, oak, and walnut spread throughout my garage - I don't like to scrap wood as you never know when you will need it later. ;)

I finally got the depth I wanted in the lettering and went ahead and painted it in black. Next step is to 'precondition/prime' the wood with some shellac, let it dry for 48 hours, and then decide on the stain color. After several coats of stain I will finish off with a light poly seal or some boiled linseed oil or both. :bunny01:

Another spice rack here. Wish I could find two matching spice racks!

Pens are in a walnut pipe stand. Found a straight one that holds 20, but at work I have the usual round pipe rack holding 6.

Beautiful! I'm impressed! I'm partial to black walnut and rosewood stain, myself.

Okay, here is the finished product on my wall. I like how the initial design turned out.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I think I will build another one slightly wider by a few inches

using scrap walnut wood instead of scrap pine boards. The walnut stock should take stain better.

I wouldn't stain Walnut, I'd just varnish it to protect the wood protection from wear and ink stains.

Even with nicely figured walnut, a bit of stain is needed to get the most color from the wood.
