Wall Storage For Ink Bottles

I just use a shelf on a Lawyers book case type case for my inks.

Oh, I love those lawyer bookcases where the door opens down or slides up into the case.

I had the same storage problem, so I converted an interior window. If I out grow this window ink display, guess I'll use the exterior window, by closing it up (no light to come through) and just make another window for my ink. I have an old house with tall ceilings and large windows. The window ink display is 7 ft tall by 36 in.

That's downright professional!!

It was less expensive to buy the supplies to build this, than to buy a ready made shelf unit to hang.

gotta love good imagination thumbup.gif you also weld a great paintbrush!

Thank you!

If someone had a spare closet, those pull out vertical shelves could be built in and it sure would store a lot of ink (thinking about Sam). They use those pull out vertical shelves in kitchen pantries. Probably less expensive to build them, than to buy them.

you're most welcome : )

I intended to note a much deserved compliment for your well-executed ink wall much earlier.

It's both clever, and quite makes the wall!

I think an old/antique medicine cabinet would be plenty classy while offering sunlight potection. The mirror can be replaced with a nice manuscript or a poster. Maybe a flush mount could be used in your personal office. I don't have many bottles of ink, but to the op, I keep mine in my powder cabinet as well. The reloading room is perfect as it is kept at a constant RH% and anti-static grounding on most everything.

Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.

Hello Ershen, et al,

I hate to rain on everybody's parade (and I particularly like the look of that Target shelf) but ink likes to be kept in the dark. :ninja:

All the best,

Sean :)

aka "the rainmaker"

A useful reminder about ink storage. I keep mine in drawers but intend to have shelves made to display empty ink bottles, their boxes, old antique ink bottles plus vintage office supply items I have been slowly accumulating.

I love USMCMom's window of ink! I also like the old/antique medicine cabinet idea of fast14riot for a smallish ink bottle supply.

My area is subject to numerous, small earthquakes each year. While most of these earthquakes are barely large enough to be felt, we do have several that give things a good shaking. My ink supply hides in the drawers of my desk rather than standing bravely and proudly on a shelf. You see, I made the mistake of reading the story of Humpty Dumpty to my granddaughter in my ink supply's hearing. They are good inks one and all, but cowards each and every one.

This is my solution. I got the shelf at Target on clearance. I added another one below it because I grossly underestimated my ink collection. It's about 3" deep, was cheap, and easy to hang. Definitely not the best solution out there, but it works for me. Oh, you can click the image for a larger version, too.

I very much like this idea as well. Very simple in design and I could just add another shelf above or below as I needed. I will definitely keep this one in consideration.

I will take a stab at this query. I think in Texas things are supposedly bigger or done bigger hence ershen's longing and subsequent quest for multiple shelves

I was planning to transfer back to my employer's corporate HQ in Houston, Texas. I went house shopping and what I noticed LARGE houses with high ceilings, and TALL windows. Too bad the recession hit and canceled my relocation plans. I LOVE big houses.

Best Regards,

Mikale

a spice rack similar to this has been moving around in our basement for years.. I moved it to my man cave to display my modest collection of ink. the bottom area works great for all those little sample.

when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

What is the depth ... would the sample racks fit? If not, you could use small boxes and stand them upright. Looks like it would work just fine!!

I too was heading down this route and am thinking of building something similar out of scrap oak or walnut boards I have laying around the garage. That is my wife seems to like this option the best. ;)

LOL ... yeah, I bet she does. My dad used to have wood stored in the garage when I was growing up and my mother would "remind" him that it needed to either be used or put else where. He finally made a loft type deal over head in the garage and stored it up there, but before he did that, he defused the whole, "Get it out of the garage" thing by making her a small, very pretty wood box. Funny how she never brought it up again. LOL
