Very good and concise review. I have the Sunflower and I have the same impression you do.Actually, after I bought it I found out the nib was steel :headsmack: and the way I found it was its rigidity. Now this nib is NOT scratchy. It is one that is almost present in my rotations, and when not, I'm anxious looking forward to include it ....I'm obsessive- compulsive

I just purchased this as my first fountain pen! Was it a crazy choice for a newbie?

Not at all. It is a quality made pen with a fantastic nib. An excellent choice.

Good choice that if in a future you if you want to sell, it won't depreciate horribly.

I have the older Van Gogh, 2010. I really wish I'd gotten the Starry Night version. It's absolutely one of my favorite nibs. Hopefully I'll have one of these, some day. Thanks for reviewing it!

Cool, thanks for sharing. This seems the little brother to the older Van Goghs, are the older ones still available? I have one that writes like a dream, especially with Noodler's Navy. It is one of the few pens with a metal section that I can stand.

Saw an 'old' model only yesterday in the Penbox at Epworth (www.penbox.co.uk) - was almost tempted to buy the old and the new versions! I went for the new and am delighting in it!

I've been enjoying mine for over a month now, the nib compares to my Lamy 2000 in smoothness, I find it really comfortable. I personally don't have any problems with a steel grip section and I would guess that you couldn't have a magnetic cap with something metal to grab on to.

The only thing I found disappointing is that it doesn't really post very well, I don't get a nice positive feel that the cap will stay on the pen, too bad the magnet couldn't work from the other direction :roflmho:

One other thing, I'm really afraid that if I see the other colors in this series I'll have to get them, I love the Blue of Starry Night, but I could easily get along with Yellow and Red

Bad Hobbit, compliments for the clue of the back magnet.

Well we tried harder with no success to put a back magnet.

We have made many samples but inner cap was not matching with body tail.

Plus it was un practical to unpost.

The sided body was choose due to better highlight of colors and we have turned the old VG shape to Rembrandt.

Price : is a bit high, not really compared to some german brands, but the packaging is expensive but is bringing new people into pens , the box is also a window display.

Last but not least :colors : these effects are stunning also in manufacturing cost, just imagine to control color tones following a Pantone range for each pen but all different at same time !

Great review, Starry Night has its own swirl of colour tones that are simply goregeous homage to Van Gogh, in fact all the range are sublime. I like Starry Night and Sunflowers, not sure which one to get ! maybe both? if I could I would enjoy having all of them  Mr DV keep the good work up :)

  • 3 years later...

I'm looking into buying this pen, just because of the fact that I'm big fan of van gogh and especially the starry night art piece. There are several reviews, one of my favorite is the pen habit youtube channel.

I'm set to buying this pen. All I need now is to fund it, ha.
