Hi all

This Parker 51 150675459244 finally arrived at my home.

After a quick inspection it turns out it is a kosher Parker 51 cartridge / converter, in forest green no less. :bunny01: :bunny01:

Thought I would share a few pics of the pen, after I gave it a quick scrub up (I used the cap from my mint cocoa 51 just for the pics).

Section internals and connector (with an unused converter all ready to go).

Looks better with the correct converter.

look no breather hole.

Not too shabby for $90 delivered to the door.

Just curious - Does it have a breather hole on the side instead?

Cheers, paul

Hi Sherbie

No this P51 doesn't have a breather hole in the barrel at all, it doesn't need one.

Its not an aerometric filler its C / C.

Check all your other C / C fillers, do they have breather holes?

hope this helps.

Paul.

Love that green but not sure I understand the distinction between c/c filler and aeromatic.

Please enlighten me - I'm just a noob with three p51's and a hunger for more ........

It's nice that you got the converter with it. The seller on eBay only showed pictures with a cartridge in it.

Hi knitknitfrog

The aerometric filler on the Parker 51 is not removable and has a breather tube.

It needs a breather hole in the barrel to equalise the pressure around the ink sac so it doesn't burp ink when the air in the barrel expands.

Whereas a C/C filler is just a tank to hold the ink (a bit like a mini eyedropper system).

A good reference site for the different kinds of filling systems can be found Here .

Hope this helps.

Yea it would have been nice, the one in the pen now is a spare I had lying about.

The converter looks like the early 45 type - was the 51 converter similar, or was it very different?....... I have never seen one, they must be pretty rare.

The section details are interesting too, not at all like the standard 51, presumably because the 51 is aerometric and the converter is not. Was the section intended to be re-movable, or sealed like the 51?

It's certainly an interesting contrast with the 51. Is the nib gold or Ocatanium? - in some ways the convertor concept may be seen as the cheaper alternative (51 Spec) to the 51.

Hi.

The converter I have used is from an early P45.

I guess the P45 and P51 C/C were produced around the same time, so they just used the same converter.

Anyway, if it is good enough for parker51.com then it is good enough for me.

The section on this P51 C/C was sealed, I guess if it wasn't, it would leak just like any other P51.

AFAIK all the P51 C/C nibs were gold,

I have read the nib is the only part that will interchange between the C/C pen and the aerometric pen (cap notwithstanding).

The link to the P51 C/C page at parker51.com can be found HERE.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the reply. I was curious, as some sites state that the C/C PRE-DATED the P45

It makes sense that the converters were the same if production was concurrent.

The lack of success for the C/C is puzzling IF, and it's big IF, the writing experience was the same as a standard P51. Why wouldn't an owner want the versality? On the other hand, many people take the view that the later converter equipped parkers (of any type) are not as reliable as the the true aerometric P51 - by that I mean that a P51 left capped for a couple of days will start immediately, and is a smooth flowing pen under all conditions. In my experience with P45, P25 and more, some pens are much better than others........

Forest Green is a really nice color. Availability of colors now on the P51 always intrigues me. Some of the rarer colors seem really attractive, whilst the more numerous, black, is a bit conservative. Perhaps our taste in color reflects the times !

  • 11 years later...

If anybody knows how to disassemble the nib and feed of the oroginal 1961-1963 Parker 51 C/C pen? I googled but found no results. I can remove the connector part but then find no way to remove from within the hood the part that holds the nib and feed.

I need to diassemble the whole section in order to correct the feed and nib postioning of one of my (early 1960s') C/C 51 that I purchased recently.

Thanks in advance.

They come apart just like a normal P51, the problem is, not much to grab hold of to unscrew them.
I believe there is a modified Vac wrench that will fit P51 connector threads, to enable removal of the shell.

I can remove the hood from the connector. But then I find the collector looking part that holdsIMG_20230930_222651.thumb.jpg.e5f25cdf473fea352ca6ae9451ab71f1.jpg the nib and feed stuck inside the hood. I have encircled the stuck part using your picture.

That part should just pull straight out, it is probably stuck with dried ink.
The only thing I can suggest is to keep soaking it or run it through an ultrasonic cleaner.

Thank you. I will run it through ultrasonic cleaner.
