Snorkel’S Nib Issue

Hello Sheaffer fans,

I am a new victim of Sheaffer addiction.

I got two old snorkel FP. They are quite similar, except for the cap. Admiral model?

I was able for do a repair: new sac, point gasket, O-ring plus cleansing and now I have two gorgeous pens. (BTW thanks Martin Ferguson)

With a loupe I can see that nibs are fine and medium, both of them with number 5.

But the breather hole in M5 nib has been done somewhat off place, in my uneducated opinion.

Is this correct or there were some quality control failure?

Until now I can't appreciate any issue in flow ink and the nib has no cracks.

Have a nice day.

the slit was just cut off center. it won't affect the flow.

the second pen is one of my grails, a fern green snorkel. :notworthy1:

fern green is one of the rarest snorkel colors, and the nicest imo.

Which is off center depends on the rest of the nib/point/pen, but in the picture it looks like the slit.

What color are they? At first, the top one looked black and bottom one pastel green, but when I make the picture bigger, the bottom one looks blacker and the top one greener. Neither looks fern.

Hi there,

thanks for your opinions.

I am sorry but until now I didn't knew about fern green and his supposed value for Pen fans.

Here there are others photo taken with better light.

Besides the cap also section is different.

I have done some research and i guess those models aren't Admiral. Sentinel, Valiant or Crest?? Snorkel is a completely new world for me.

Greetings to all

Very nice pens! :)

The one with the gold cap is a Crest, and the one with the plastic cap is a Valiant.

The section with the same colour as the barrel/cap was seen on the later Snorkels (post 1956, I think)

There were 3 different greens, Pastel, Sage, and Fern. Your's are Pastel and Fern.

I believe Fern to be the rarest color after the Unobtainium Full plastic Fiesta Red ( only 2 documented examples ever found).

Your fern pen looks like a beauty and is valuable ( $300+).

Sensitive Pen Restoration doesn't cost extra.
