Wing Sung 233

I just received one of these as part of a lot of ten assorted old Wing Sungs from jewelrymathematics on eBay. The cost came out to a tad under $2.50 per pen and I am quite happy with it for the price. But then I am rather attached to old Wing Sungs, which is why I bought ten;-)

I would disagree on aesthetics, though I think you could say it is either plain or old fashioned. At least is is not so garishly over the top as some of the pens in that lot of ten! It looks pretty much the same as a c.1950 Sheaffer I have (including the spring loaded clip) except the Sheaffer has a plastic cap (but a gold band and nib). Lots of much more expensive Sheaffers of the 1940s had that same simple cigar shape. I'd prefer to call it "classic";-)

My experience with the WS "Triumph" nibs is that they tend to be gritty and/or scratchy. The nib on my 233 is above average for the type but no match for the old Sheaffer. They are both nails but the Sheaffer feels as though it has a tiny pad on the tip that gives it a soft, pleasant feel. But you can buy 20 233s for what that Sheaffer model goes for used on eBay these days. The WS nibs do seem to be made out of something tough and hard. It is very difficult to change the alignment or smooth the tip. But then these were manifold nibs meant to allow you to bear down hard and make multiple carbon copies.
