This question may reveal a new high (or low?) in pen addiction, but: whattaya reckon the odds are of ever-so-gently grinding one of these nibs into a nice stub or IC?

At the price point it might just be worth a try.... :hmm1:

I've heard of Varsitys having similar things done!

Disposable fountain pen?!

When I first read the subtitle-it blew my mind a bit...

Why would an instrument of creating personal memories need to be disposable?!?! Gahhh! :gaah:

Having said that...Maybe I should give one a try, hehe.

Perhaps they mean "disposable" for us; as in, something we can use to spread the good gospel of fountain pennery to the masses! I use Varsities to "convert" people all the time, these Bic's may not be a bad back up. I'd definitely pick up a pack to try!

Could the Bic be filled with the same vaccum trick as the Varsity? (no need to pull the feed)

Vacuum trick? Please elaborate.

Going to go looking for a pack ASAP. Ill probably give one away and grind the second into something more my style.

Looking forward to someone coming up with a DIY eyedropper.

Did anyone figure out how to turn it into and eyedropper yet?

No luck here. I tried prying the "blind cap" end off but only managed to ding up the plastic. I prefer the size and weight, and even the nib size of these over the Varsity, but the ink is very dull looking. At least the Varsity has decent looking ink.

The BIC would be a much better pen if there was a way to get Noodler's Buletproof Black (or ANY other ink) into it.

Uggghh, BIC! PLEASE! PILOT!!!! EVERYONE ELSE WHO'S MAKING A DISPOSABLE PEN!! Would it cost more to make a pen that has the potential to be reused?? Come on, something as cheap as your current disposable models so that it can be thrown away by those who wish to do so, yet something that CAN be refilled by the rest of us... Is that so unreasonable?! -__-

The above shall not be construed as legal advice under any circumstances

You can certainly grind a Pilot V Pen rather nicely. There have been a number of references to "Varsity" here. I am wondering if a Varsity is a local name for the same pen they call a VPen up here. The V Pen is actually a very good practice pen for this. I hate the whole throw away idea and have discovered 3 different ways to refill them. For a throwaway item, the V Pen has a very nice nib.

V pen = Japan

Varsity = America

Pilot uses different names in different markets. Canon does the same thing.

The more Un-refillable they are the more they sell.

Checked the local Staples Sunday afternoon after church, but they didn't have the Bic's or the Zebra's. Mildly disappointing, but most of the Orlando area is a wasteland when it comes to the pen life. (I did unexpectedly find this fountain pen and selectip series of Cross pens that I'd never seen before and that don't appear on any websites as of this morning (fyi, by the model name "Bailey").)

Will try the Staples near my office this evening on the way home. A pair of decent fp's for five bux is worth the brief detour.

Vacuum trick? Please elaborate.

You get a syringe (no needle) and cut the top part off. It should be roughly the width of the pen. You put ink in it (open end up) and stick the nib in the syringe as to create a vacuum. Then you start to pump the piston of the syringe. There is a video on YouTube of this. Just type in refilling a pilot varsity and you should be able to find it.
