I am thinking of buying the Sailor 1911 Fresca BlueL. My question is on selection of the nib. I like a finer nib and have and EF on my Pilot M200 that works well. What size of Japanese nib would correspond to that? Thanks as always.

I guess you meant to say Pelikan M200. I'd say a Sailor MF or a Platinum M

I did mean Pelikan. Thanks for the advice. I only saw XF, F, M and up advertised for the 1911 Fresca Blue so would you go for the F?

A Sailor Fine writes a similar width as a Zebra Sarasa .5, or I suppose any gel pen in .5. The M nib, depending on your pressure, comes close to a .7 gel line (I compared it with a uni signo 307).

Sailors aren't gushers, like Pelikan firehoses, but I don't find them dry either. I find them wet-ish writers, though they are just right imo.

Thanks for all the information. I now ask, do the Sailor nibs write wet or dry?

My Sailor fine nib is relatively dry. I can use wet inks and write on cheap paper without worry.

Thanks ENewton, I prefer a nib that is on the dry side. Now to decide between EF and or F. My Waterman Charleston is as wet as I want to would like to get a nib that is a bit smaller. Hard to do when pen shops are so far away.

A Sailor fine will write a considerably narrower line than a Waterman fine.

How many Sailor 1911 sizes exists? Ive bought a Sailor 1911 Large, this is a third size or that the same pen you are referring to as ‘Sailor 1911’ ?

Pacience to wait for a new pen to arrive, something I dont have.

Over time I was able to acquire one of each and they are both great. Hard Mediums. I have had them for years now. They both see a fair bit of use and they have stood the test of time and use fabulously.

For sdbruder I believe there are only these two sizes and you can’t go wrong with either. I am 6’4” with largish hands and they both fit me well.

An overdue thank you for this review.
