Good Morning...

or afternoon, evening or night to you all.

I discovered the network while looking up information on Sailor pens, not only was it helpful to me in making a decision, but I also enjoyed the posts, the precision of all the information and the joy you all have in the details of things. Makes me happy. So, here I am. I just bought a beautiful silver sailor 1911 pen as my older (may 1997) parker sonnet moonbeam had fallen, bent its pen and is losing its lacquer at the bottom end. In the meantime I fixed the parker pen and now have two that 'work' and are hard to choose from. They're different but stand up to each other very well in elegance and simplicity. Next purchase will probably a bottle of Iroshizuku ink...

Hello Moondust, and a very warm welcome to FPN :W2FPN: Which colour of Iroshizuku ink are you thinking of getting? I love them all!

Hello again, here are the pictures of my two lovely pens. One a Parker Sonnet Moonbeam, the other a day old Sailor 1911 sterling sliver one.

As for the Iroshizuku ink...

I'm thinking of Kiri-same as an alternative to L'Herbins Poussiere de Lune (inspiration also for my username); one or two browns, Ina-ho because it seems to be such a down to earth brown, Yama-Guri because it has this warm dark red chestnut tone to it and the Murasaki-shikibu because it's a gorgeous purple blue that it makes me want to dive into it.

(I hope I'm handling the technique of replying well, if I do anything awkward feel free to let me know)

Welcome to FPN Moondust! I do like your handle. I don't understand why but I really like Poussiere de Lune. I don't usually go for dusky colors like that. You're pens are beautiful and you take very good photos.

Thanks!

I was trying to get away from the dusky ones and decided for bleu pervenche (periwinkle blue) from l'Herbin for the new sailor pen. Alas, far to bright for me. I can hardly read what I wrote for all the colour the ink is showing off :-)

So now I've decided for sailors spinach - epinard - a colour that takes me back to my childhood, looks great in the reviews here and is available nearby. The fun part is of course that this colour should be paired to vert olive by L'Herbin - my penshop owner suggested it to me - and then Popeye and his amour are back together again.

That is a great idea. I love Epinard too. I have not seen the Vert Olive. If you Bleu Pervenche then don't ever look at Noodler's Baystate Blue. You will be blinded! I have a bottle sitting on the shelf above me and I love it.

Sorry to hear about your Sonnet accident.

I too have a Sonnet Moonbeam set. One of my first pen buys.

I paid £20 for the pair in used but near mint condition except that the fountain pen had been left with ink and dried out several years before.

I filled it with distilled water and it wrote straight away. I used three fills of water only before the black started to fade and I had to put ink in it.

I have to say I also like your new choice. I decided I liked Sterling this year and have bought a second hand Sheaffer Imperial and a Lalex both in sterling, plus a nice deco style Delta rollerball for my wife.

The nice thing about silver is that it can get a lovely patina with wear - small scratches can add to the beauty :-)

.Welcome to FPN! Too bad about your Sonnet Moonbeam. I own a Sonnet Moonbeam as well, great balance and a beautiful lacquer finish: mine has a wonderfully smooth broad point, and I would hate to ruin its nib.:W2FPN:

Actually I bent back the nib once I had a new pen and now the moonbeam is writing better than ever :-)

I still have to get used to the silver Salor. The nib is 'een beetje stug' as I'd say in Dutch but hm, how to in English... a bit ... a bit.. a bit.. toughish (it's the closest I can get just now!)

Also I've been looking at parker FPs on ebay and a dutch sellingsite (marktplaats or marketplace). There is one I'd love to buy but three fountainpens...

Hallo Lennard,

Now of course the thing is to keep communicating in English for the benefit of the other FPN-ers. And so I will.

I got the pen in Leiden, at Brederode. A pretty good office supplier, they boast one of the largest collections of Succes calendars. I got the pen at a small discount because of their 12,5 birthday. On ebay I could have got it for a lot less but I preferred them to enjoy my purchase, they introduced me to Sailor and the whole story around it. The weight of the pen actually convinced me most. And the silver of course...

groet uit Leiden!
