I've been enjoying Diamine Claret, Diamine Green-Black, and Diamine Blaze Orange in my slightly flexy to really flexy pens. I tried Noodlers Black Swan in Australian Roses, but found it too extreme for my tastes. Diamine Blaze Orange actually looks incredible in my very slightly flexy pen. :cloud9:

Hello, this is my first post here in FPN. I started to use flex pens in late Sep and have gained much info from FPN (thank you!) ever since. I love J. Herbin inks when I use flex nibs and pens. Here is a sample of all JH inks that I have which are nice looking for flexes.

I've sampled other inks using flex nibs (dip pen) too. Not sure where I should post them, if anyone is interested to see them. :P

Wow, you can write like that and have only been using flex pens for 2 months? That's a fabulous looking hand!

Dear Mauricio, wow, I'm thrilled by your compliments. :cloud9: I just hoped my samples are useful for FPNers since I learned so much here. I've re-written some samples of inks I like for flex last night, hoping to match the theme of this thread.

Thank you reprieve and Tortoise. Yes, I'm still an amateur to flex nibs/pens. I started with Pilot 74 FA nib first two months ago but still my writing was pathetic. Last month, I found the website iampeth from FPN posts here, and boom, everything fell into place within a week. I am so grateful for FPNers.

Here are more samples with my fav inks for flex. Sorry about the paper (MUJI, 6mm line spacing) which gives feathering to some of the inks. I personally prefer lighter inks for flex.

I'm really enjoying Noodler's Blue Nose Bear. Paired with a really wet pen, and not quite rhodia quality paper, I get an effect where the main stroke will be a darkish teal color, and from that central point a light blue color feathers out. Most interesting ink I've ever had! I'd like to see more inks like this.

dvii, your penmanship is indeed excellent. I'm very impressed with the consistency.

I don't mean this as a criticism, just an observation: on my screen those scans don't look anything like the inks I have. For example:

Noodler's Habenero: it seems to lack orange here. Mine ranges from orange-with-a-hint-of-red in a Lamy F to red-orange-with-a-hint-of-yellow in an Ahab.

Noodler's GI Green: Here it looks like how it goes down wet for me, but mine dries to a much lighter color.

Noodler's Golden Brown: Here it doesn't seem golden at all, just a desaturated brown.

Noodler's BSiAR: Here it seems to be very muted and lacks even a hint of red--almost colorless.

Noodler's Kiowa Pecan: Here it looks like a completely different ink. Mine is definitely a light reddish-brown, but here it looks like a dark gray, not brown in the least.

Again, I don't mean this as a criticism--I just want to let you know that these scans appear wildly different to me. I realize you're using a dip pen, and I'm sure that accounts for some of it, as in my limited experience, fountain pen inks tend to flow much more from dip nibs than fountain pens, and look very different. However, I think the dominant color of the ink should still be strong.

I wonder if your scanner is over-exposing the scans. I noticed that the finer lines tend to be washed out into the white of the paper. My old scanner did the same thing, and the colors were off, too. I resorted to using a camera, which doesn't look great, but was actually an improvement over my scanner.

I don't mean this as a discouragement in any way, just as information for your benefit. Please do keep sharing with us!

Dear crunchmaster, thanks for taking time to go over the colours/scan. Indeed, I think some of the Noodler's colours your mentioned didn't match exactly with that I had on paper. Yet some were indeed close to what they were. Well, since they were all on the same piece of scan, I did not adjust them one by one.

The Habanero is indeed not very orangey in my writing. I suspect that's the result of thick ink from the dip nib. I wish it were more orangey like what I can get from normal pens too.

GI Green: The scan shows more or less the exact colour I have on paper. Not lighter green at all, also the result of thick ink from the dip nib, I guess.

Golden Brown: Yes, you are right, it is not very golden for me at all, except the fine lines. Result of dip nib?

Noodler's BSiAR: Ah, this is how my scan went awry... it should be more purple, berry. My scan made it muted... >.<

Kiowa Pecan: This one should be browner indeed, yes! Like I said, I couldn't fix the last two colours because other colours seem to reflect the actual ones well...

Sorry if I have made a bad representation of some colours...

But I do think the dip nib makes some bright colours go very dark. It turns some dark purples/browns that I have into near-black! :crybaby: Perhaps flex pens are more lenient towards dark colours?

  • 2 years later...

I'm currently enjoying diamine president blue. With a fine, medium or broad nib the ink is quite boring and placid but when partnered with a flex nib and Claire Fontaine... Spectacular. I still have not worked out how to upload a picture. If anyone can best advise; I am using an iPad so need an iPad friendly suggestion if possible.

Really do love the look of black swan in english roses. Looks wonderfully archaic and refreshing at the same time in comparison to other inks.
