Favourite Inks For Flex Pens...

I'm going to amend my answer, because lately I've been using three awesome inks with flex nib pens. Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-jaku and Syo-ro, and J. Herbin Ambre de Birmanie. When those run out, I want to try my Poussiere de Lune and Vert Empire, which also have nice shading.

I do think flex nibs make any ink look great, but I've seen the light. Some inks are even better in flex pens than in regular pens.

I put ku-jaku in my Ahab today and WOW! I was not a huge fan of this ink before (it's nice and all, I just preferred syo-ro), but its behavior makes me want a bottle now! As for PdL and Vert Empire, they are two of my flexy faves!

Noodler's black swan in australian roses

Noodler's green marine (pretty good if it's very flexy)

Noodler's Antietam

Diamine Florida Blue (similar to turqoise, but darker)

Diamine Turquoise (my new favorite blue)

Lie de The and MB Sepia were in my 'single' working easy full flex.

I'm expecting Café des Îles and it is a known great shader.

I don't use my easy full flex pen(s) much... I'm too lazy to develop a Hand. And it's a sin to waste ink so.

I finally got some papers so can play around with ink and paper.

There being no real reason to fiddle with nib and ink with basically just copy paper; one needs some 'good' to 'better' paper for the fun of it.

At one time I had MB Winter Forest in 5 pens, but not an easy full flex, but think it would work.

R&K's Alt Goldgelb has a good rep. I don't know for sure with full flex nibs.

I only have one working easy full flex pen a Dugussa OF...actually I can't tell if OF does anything in easy full flex or not. I have to compare it to a 'normal' point full flex Degussa. ** I do not 'notice' the major difference I get with a maxi-semi-flex/'flexi' OF vs a regular F of that flex.

The other, a Degussa M, is on a pen that will work for a day or two or a couple of hours. The rubber will suck ink...and let it go around. :headsmack:

Rubber just don't re-hydrate...well I don't have a trick for it.

I'm saving that pen and two others I am re-hydrating that will hold ink for an hour or a day, for ESSR blue black that's also due in in the morning.

I'm going with Full Flex M, semi-flex OBB, springy BB, nail B, M in semi-flex and regular, and empty out P-51 nail F. in regular and semi-flex F and maxi-semi-flex/'flexi' EF. More or less @ 9 nibs...

This ink is rumored to be 'Majik' so gets the whole smear.

Going to run it across a number of papers and if it shows any promise even the real good papers will get a testing.

I have to develop a testing set up.

Don't use my easy Full Flex much, not having 'good' to 'better' paper until just recently. IMO it's not worth wasting ink on regular copy paper.

And being too lazy to develop a Hand worth the ink.

**Sounds like something simple to do today.

Has anyone found a ink that works in the Noodler's Flex pen that looks metallic? I know it's a stretch but if that was possible how cool would it look signing holiday cards!

Thanks :)

I think for a FP, we're relegated to inks that have a slight shimmery-sheen. I really wanted to use Sailor Epinard for my holiday cards, as it's a pretty evergreen color with a red sheen, but it didn't match my cards. I went with Diamine Kelly Green and Diamine Eclipse (which does have a slight sheen, but my cards were too absorbent) for the two styles of cards I bought.

I haven't tried this in a flex pen, but I will soon -- how about J. Herbin's 1670 Rogue Hematite? It's a rich red and has a sparkly golden sheen.

Rouge Hematite works well in my Vulcan Inferno Flex... Enough to dedicate that pen to that ink... Not metallic, just sheeny.

Hello, this is my first post here in FPN. I started to use flex pens in late Sep and have gained much info from FPN (thank you!) ever since. I love J. Herbin inks when I use flex nibs and pens. Here is a sample of all JH inks that I have which are nice looking for flexes.

I've sampled other inks using flex nibs (dip pen) too. Not sure where I should post them, if anyone is interested to see them. :P

Thanks Florenze for your encouraging words~ :)

I'm using Gillott 303 with Oblique pen holder. It's easier to use dip nib when sampling with different inks... lazy me. :P
