No, merely in poor taste.

In that case, sorry for being a twit.

I'll restrain my pedantry - I'm learning to, but do still fail at times. No annoyance was intended.

It's been a long time I haven't been on this forum, seems everybody is doing well here.

I want to share with you my recent efforts on this style, but somehow I just can't add image into my post, I hope someone can help me out.

Thanks in advances.

Some lyrics to a Billy Squier song that I like. I just get bored writing alphabets, words, and sentences that don't make any sense! LOL So I decided that I'd try some song lyrics to aleviate the "boredom factor" of practice.

I know...I know...too heavy handed. I'm working on it...I can do it too, but I lose focus on that aspect while concentrating on other elements such as consistent slant and also I get impatient and get in a rush to finish. All of these things spell doom. LOL!

And here is another bit of the song Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. I got lazy when I wrote the title, and didn't use a pen that wrote heavy enough, so it's pretty wimpy.

Your slant's really pretty consistent, but I've got little exercise that could help you really get it hammered into the eyes. (There are plenty of things wrong with my handwriting, but slant isn't typically one of them.)

First, prepare a guide sheet consisting of a writing line, x-line, 2x-line, and 3x-line, with a 30 degree slant line. The exercise is simply writing l, h, and k in combination with various other letters. Here's the hook. Curve the upstroke for the l (h or k) along the 30 degree lines. As you near the 3x-line, begin the clockwise turn and look for spot where the upstroke crossed x-line. Aim straight for it (after finishing the turn) and when you cross the x-line, complete the letter. Adjust the turnaround diameter until the loop looks the correct width. Repeat until you can't help but see the correct angle for the down-stroke.

begin the clockwise turn and...

do you mean counter-clockwise?

I'm going to try this out. my h's seem okay, but i need help with my l's. I have to imagine writing h's but not complete them. actually, i think i'm going to suck it up and write in the copy books.

That is nice penmanship deathbringer - what is even more impressive that you got to this level in 4 months. Please do share more.

Moving on in my slow and difficult journey to learn this sadistic hand. LOL!

Trying to work on the arm muscle movement. It's weird man, sometimes it works like a charm flawlessly, but then on the very next letter I struggle.

I'm learning though...the "secret" is to have the flange bent "downward" so that the nib is more "flat" in relation to the desk surface. That, and learn to regulate the pen pressure on the upstrokes and lateral strokes. And do it fast...with reckless abandon. Well, almost. LOL

Beautifully written, Brian - you're making great progress.

However, it should be pointed out that you have an unfair advantage over many writers - you're using a beautifully crafted penholder!

Thank you, Ken! I don't see how you do it, sir. It's really hard, but I'm finding that practicing those silly circle exercises is helping the most. That, and writing bigger when practicing. I've found that it's easier to use arm movement on big sweeping lines and ovals...in fact, I'm finding that it's impossible to write big ovals without using arm muscles. Here is the really hard adjustment...when writing small lowercase letters, I don't use a lot of arm motion...it doesn't seem necessary and doesn't seem "correct". Talking about small letters here...like 1/8 inch or smaller. When I'm making larger capitals (copying from an exemplar), it becomes fairly "routine" and begins to feel normal to write like that. But...when I "mix" them...such as when I write a letter or something...I'm writing in small lower case...then the sentence ends, and I have to do a capital, or some sort of feeble flourish...and it seems like all of that arm movement that I was practicing just flew out of the window. I guess I haven't practiced it enough to form a solid habit as of yet?

Are there any appreciable differences between the Leonardt Principal and the Hunt 101? Not that I'm good enough to notice it at this stage, just curious.

Oh, you could notice the difference. The Principal is noticeably sharper, slightly stiffer, and has better snap back. The 101 is probably friendlier to beginners and about half as expensive.
