Akkerman Ink Shared Order From Australia?

...........

I prefer to live with something for a while before passing on any opinions, but as a quick reaction I find them very like the Diamine inks that I have and use all the time.

I did notice a slightly prominent bleed on some cheap copy paper - but no worse than many of the other inks I have used. I'm never quite sure about this wetness and dryness quality of inks - most of them seem pretty much the same to me (shows you that I'm no expert) but the inks flow well off the pen and seem perfectly good for their purpose. It's a bit like wine buffs banging on about chocolate and berry 'notes' in the plonk they're sampling - I never sense those, just the overal character of the stuff, which in the case of these inks seems absolutely fine!

I find it hard to imagine that anyone would regret buying them. They seem to dry quite fast on the page. Any road up, lets see what the experienced atramentaphiles have to say!

Sincerely, beak.

Having used the bottles for a while, and heeding the warnings about cleaning the tops, I'm going to leave some ink in the neck; it might dry out around the marble and otherwise. Will turn the bottle once or twice to mix this ink back into the main tank before filling though.

Wish I'd ordered more of these now!

Huge thanks to beak! My package landed here this morning, and I have just unpacked...... w3hat amazing packing, both from Akkerman and from beak!

I dip tested with my glass pen........and all three of my colours are delicious and different to other makes I have.

The Zunderpark Bleau-Groen is a very lovely dark teal.

The Voohout Violet is smokey, mysterious darkish purple...........and the

Bunnenhof Blues is a classic bright blue............not navy, not sapphire - a pure blue.

These opinions come from a few quick scribbles on some Rhodia paper - and seen through oldish eyes!! :yikes:

Great - glad you like them.

The others should have arrived by now too (except shrinknib and YSG) - have they?

Sincerely, beak.

Oh my what a happy bunch of people. I have 5 bottles of the stuff and will now need a few new pen pals else I shall be leaving ink to my descendents in my will. I used to use Herbin Poussiere de Lune, but am now converted to Voorhout Violet. It is quite a bit wetter than the Herbin. I bet that Akkermans are just a little surprised at all this attention. Their original intent was to only produce this for their anniversary year, but at this rate I think these will become a permanent feature at their store.

Did any of you get Hofkwartier Groen? That is a really nice green. I wonder if any of my correspondents will mind getting letters in green. I have put the Treves Turquoise in a Graphomatic which I am currently working on to get the flow right to the flexible nib. The results so far are very nice. In fact I am now inspired to go write something.

What fun is This?

Beak, is that your own lettering ........

Yes, not very neat, I'm afraid - just wanted to dash something off. I think the ink blots show the range of tones for the inks rather well; a wet pen giving the darker and a drier pen the lighter - would this be how it works?

Trouble is I keep seeing disturbing images in them - must get myself analysed one day!

Dealing with Akkerman was a breeze and they are very prompt. Just e-mail them in English - no problem.

Beak, is that your own lettering next to the ink blots?

Sure wish some clever person on this side of the Atlantic pond would assemble a similar ink-flotilla.

More ink blots from yours, please?

We have been doing it for some time. The Ottawa Pen Posse is floating in the stuff.

Phew - all done! Everyone has their ink!

I have just one problem with these inks; the colour of the cardboard boxes they come in; two shades of an electric drab-lime-green-bile which clash alarmingly with the bright yellow lettering and accents.

Colour is a very personal thing, of course; but am I alone in this?

So, searching through FPN threads for Akkerman samples, arrived here.

Would those of you who have had some time with your bottles of ink shared some impressions?

Was thinking of the Voorhoot, which would serve as a black-purple, ala caran d'ache Storm, but in Beak's blots above it appears rather muddy, and I'd prefer to not replicate towards Noodler's Black Swan..

How has the Shocking Blue worked for all of you? Beak still like the Violet?

Like the bright green, but honestly this bottle equals two lifetime's worth of green ink.

Is there a color with very nice shading effect?

What do you think of the grey? the black?

I am not in Australia, but I have taken to Voorhout instead of Poussiere de Lune. I consider it a "professional" ink, in that I can use it for professional communications. In a wet pen, it is almost black, but not quite. I am using it in a Waterman Commando with a double broad keyhole flex stub that I had Gerry work over to make it wet. In this type of pen I can sign quickly and it is almost black, but I can flex the nib and make shades of purple appear. I would personally not use it in a fine or dry nib, but that is me.

Hi P2P

Yes still loving the SImplisties violet. I've never found the Voorhout to be muddy at all, in fact I like the way it holds its colour even in a thin nib - I should post some writing samples so that you can get a better impression - remind me if I forget to do it this weekend!

Cab driver yesterday was Dutch (not usual here) and he was kind enough to give me the pronunciation of Voorhout: 'For-hout' (with equal stress) - the last vowel just like the English word 'out'.

Hi all, I'm in the NL so I won't join in the order but maybe I can pass on a tip. I was at Akkermans yesterday and got to choose a color of their inks to fill the converter I just bought for an old Sheaffer pen (imperial sterling c/c). I went for Diep-Duinwater blauw (8) and alas, was advised not to as they had experienced trouble - I think flow issues - with that colour. Same for IJzer-Galnoten blue/black (10). I'm not sure if all pens have a problem with these inks, and it doesn't feel very nice to pass on negative information on an Akkerman ink but still, it's their own information and it could have an effect on your choices.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you may just find you get what you need
